Obituary of John Edward Henderson

1925 ~ 2016 It is with very sad hearts that we announce John’s passing at age 90 at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus on April 2nd, 2016. John was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 17, 1925. He joined the Royal Naval Air Arms in April 1944 at the young age of 18. He served for three years as a Spitfire pilot flying off aircraft carriers and retired with the rank of lieutenant. After returning home at the end of WWII, he attended Law School at Osgoode Hall, Toronto and was admitted to the Bar in 1950. He came to Brockville in 1952 and began his law practice with the firm known today as Henderson, Johnston, Fournier. He was an active contributor to the community, serving as director and officer of several organizations. He also served as a member of the Canadian Bar Association Council for many years. John led an active life, enjoying many sports as well as boating, horseback riding, reading and travelling. He had a lifelong passion for skiing and loved to teach others, beginning with his young children. He later spent 38 years skiing at Mont Tremblant with the J.B. Ski Club, his “home away from home”. He exhibited integrity and intelligence in all he did. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Renate, of 38 years. Sadly missed by his children Sherry (Bern), David (Gail) and step-children Barbara (Richard), Patricia (Greg). Predeceased by daughter Sandra. Cherished grandfather of Christopher, Ashley, Jessica, Emily, Adam, William, Eric. Family invite friends to a Memorial Service celebrating John’s life to be held in the Chapel of the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. East, Brockville, Ontario on April 24th at 2:00 pm. In memory of John donations may be made to the United Way of Leeds Grenville or charity of choice.
