Obituary of Irene Grier

Irene (Smith) Grier, beloved wife of Ross Grier of Tilley in the former Front of Escott Township, passed away at Kingston General Hospital on January 04, 2017 after a sudden illness of several weeks. Irene also leaves behind her children Maxine Grier, Paul Grier and Linda (Doug) Byers, grandchildren Rebecca and Adam Byers, her twin sister Ada (Everett) Smith of Dunnville, a niece and several nephews and their children. Irene was the daughter of the late John Smith and the former Muriel Reid, and was raised with her sister on their farm on the Holland Road in the former Township of the Front of Escott. She was educated at the Holland School, Gananoque Secondary School, and Mallorytown Continuation School. She trained with her sister at the St. Vincent de Paul Hospital in Brockville, where they were they were noted as the first pair of twins to graduate in 1957 from the R.N.A. program. She worked for several years in all three Brockville hospitals, until she married her husband at St. John United Church in Brockville on April 4, 1964. She farmed with him on their dairy and later beef farm on the Blue Mountain Road for more than 52 years. She was a longtime member of the Rebekkah Lodge in Mallorytown, and Lansdowne United Church; and a former member of the Loyal True Blue Ladies Lodge of the Orange Order in Brockville. Internment will take place in the spring at Union Cemetery near Lansdowne.
