Steve Countryman

Obituary of Steve Countryman

After a long and extremely courageous battle with heart and lung disease, passed away at BGH on Thursday, January 31, with family at his side. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Bruce and Moira Countryman and by his in-laws Ed and Dorothy Hutton. He is survived by his daughter Bailey, his former wife Barb, his sister Joanne and brother-in-law John LaPrade, brothers and sisters-in-law Steve and Irene Hutton, Cathy Deir and John Earle, and several nieces and nephews and their families. Steve was born in Brockville. He had a lifelong passion for boating and fishing on the river and on Charleston Lake, until declining health prevented it in recent years. Steve loved animals, and all the dogs in his life brought much joy, especially his beloved Black Lab, Shadow. After becoming ill, Steve spent many enjoyable and productive days in his workshop. He was very creative and talented, making beautiful, intricate pieces such as decorative boxes, superbly crafted shelves and tables, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. Steve never tired of describing his thrilling ride this summer in the Poker Runs of America boat in Kingston, which was so kindly arranged by his long-time friend, Chris Clow. Throughout his health struggles and countless hospital stays in Brockville and Kingston, Steve never lost his sense of humour and remained courageous and positive.

At Steve’s request a Private Family Service will be held. In memory of Steve donations to the Big Sky Ranch Animal Sanctuary or the Leeds Grenville OSPCA would be greatly appreciated by the family. Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. E., Brockville entrusted with the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com.
