Glen Moon

Obituary of Glen David Moon

1936-2025

Glen passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in St Lawrence Lodge after a short illness on Saturday, Jan 25 at the age of 88.  Loving husband of Barbara and dear father of Carolyn and David (Martha), stepfather to Michael Gaylord (Lucyna), and grandfather to Noah and Ella Moon.  Brother-in-law of Lambert Leeder (Irene), Kevin Leeder and David McDonald (Karen).  Son of the late Walter and Marguerite Moon of Orillia.  Predeceased by first wife Gil in 1988, and sisters Lorraine Hawke (Howard), Frances Collins (Phil) and Dorothy Stechley (Michael).

Born and raised in Coldwater, Ontario, Glen joined the Canadian Air Force as an air frame mechanic and was stationed in Baden-Baden, Germany.  Returning to Canada he became a helicopter pilot; his first job was flying tourists over Niagara Falls.  His next job was with a Montreal radio station flying weather reporters over the city.   He next worked for three years as a bush pilot in Newfoundland and northern Quebec.  He then joined Transport Canada, Canadian Coast Guard division.  This work first took him to many parts of the country including ice reconnaissance in the Arctic and a stint in Guyana, South America.  In 1974 he went to Prescott Coast Guard Base flying the St. Lawrence River from Montreal to Sarnia, supplying support services for Coast Guard ships.

After his retirement from Prescott Base in 1994, he enjoyed an active life restoring two vintage sports cars.  He and Barbara enjoyed travelling and also downhill skiing – he skied until the age of 79.

Glen was a resident of Maitland for many years and an active member of St. James Anglican Church even after moving to Brockville where he lived for the past 20 years.

Glen is fondly remembered by many for his great sense of humour.  He will be missed by many friends.

The family will receive friends at Barclay's Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St E, Brockville, on Saturday, Feb 1 from 10 am to 12 noon.  Funeral service at St. James Anglican Church, Church St., Maitland, at 12:30 pm, Feb 1.  Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
