Obituary of Dorothy Lillian Ferguson

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Ferguson, with family by her side, on Saturday May 3rd, 2025. Dorothy (Vickery) Ferguson of Brockville age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Merrill Ferguson. Loving mother to Jan Stephenson (Bob) of Mallorytown, Judy Plooy (Adrian) of Alberta and Jill Ferguson of Brockville and the late Joan Ferguson. Cherished grandmother of Nathanial Plooy (Chrissy) and great grandmother of Hunter, Logan and Leanna all of Alberta. Dear daughter of the late Harvey and Mildred (Hudson) Vickery; and sister of Frances Halfpenny (Wayne), Fred Vickery (Shelly), and the late Phyllis Dunster (John) and Freda Cross (Ivan). Also missed by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Dorothy grew up on the family farm in Lillies, attended the Lillies Public School, then BCI, and Teachers College in Ottawa.

She taught for a year, then she & Merrill Ferguson were married in July, 1951. They resided on Merrill’s family farm in Junetown where they raised their 4 daughters.

Dorothy enjoyed baking wonderful chocolate cakes, sewing, snowmobiling with her family, as well as a life-time membership in the Junetown Women’s Institute and her involvement in the UCW in Lyn and her beloved Bees Knees quilting group. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh too.

Dorothy was a most caring, loving person for everyone who was important to her, and believed it was the little things that made a big difference in peoples’ lives, from birthdays to Christmas’s, and of course those hugs & kisses.

She attended many baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, anniversaries and of course, church.

She enjoyed her recent residence at Bridlewood Manor, from the meals, to the unending attention from the staff. She loved them and they, her.

Thank you for being you, Dorothy. A wonderful Sister, Mom, Auntie, Grandma, and Great Grandma. We love you.

Special thanks to the amazing staff at Bridlewood, the Palliative Care nurses and Dr. Jaworski for all their wonderful care and support.
