Obituary of Kelly Joanne McGregor
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kelly Joanne McGregor, 57 of Brockville Ontario.
Kelly was surrounded by her family and close friends when she entered heavens gates on Sunday May 25th 2025. Kelly leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience.
Kelly was born on November 8th, 1967 in Moose Factory Ontario. Kelly was an air force daughter and had the pleasure of travelling all over Canada and upper United States. Her childhood was enriched with diversity and everlasting friendships.
Kelly worked as a DSW for over 20 years in the infirmary at Rideau Regional Hospital. After the closure of the Hospital Kelly went back to school to earn her diploma in Business Administration. Soon after receiving this, she was hired at the Brockville Health Unit where she stayed until finishing her career. Kelly made many friendships during her careers and felt blessed by each and everyone of them. Anyone that knew Kelly, knew she had a passion for Classic Rock. Especially for Tom Petty, Bob Segar and her prized vinyl collection. She was a diehard Montreal Canadians fan and loved feeding the birds. She found joy whenever the birds would visit her especially the Cardinals to whom she found great comfort in. Kelly had a passion for cacti and what they represent - strength, hope, the will to live and being able to survive in the harshest conditions. Much in the same way Kelly lived her life.
These last 10 years of Kelly’s life have been a courageous battle. Her strength, determination and positive attitude were inspiring to all that knew her. A large group of friends came together to create a group who called themselves “Team Kelly”. This group of friends and coworkers became her support system to encourage all treatment, surgeries and therapies she went through. Over the years they were instrumental in fundraising for cancer research.
Kelly is survived by beloved son Cody (April) and daughter’s Caitlyn and Chloe McGregor. Kelly leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren Felix and Adaline McGregor-Healey who were her pride and joy. Also survived by brother Sean (Lisa), and Darren Makarenko, Neice Olivia (Cassim) and Nephew Shane (Sabrina) Makarenko. Kelly will be unimaginably missed by cousin, caregiver and best friend Erin (Abby) Devereaux. Kelly will be also missed by her loyal furry friend – Willow.
Kelly is predeceased by parents Edward (Mac), and Germaine Makarenko, and many aunts and uncles.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to Kellys Oncologist Dr Sharon McGee, The Ottawa Hospital. The Oncology Department at Winchester Memorial Hospital, The Brockville Palliative Care Team, Special Nurse Jackie Thubron, and Dr. Jerry Ashe.
Donations can be made to the Brockville Palliative Care Unit or Ontario SPCA Leeds and Grenville.
As per Kellys request a cremation has taken place and private family service will be held.
