Obituary of Robert Green
Robert (Bob), James Green of Brockville passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 28th, 2025 with the love of his family surrounding him.
Bob was born in 1936 in Kingston but was raised in Brockville. He had just celebrated his 89th birthday to which he remarked “I have had a good life”. Bob was predeceased by his wife Theresa (Terry) Fontaine of Cornwall. Married for almost 60 years they raised their family in Brockville. Bob is survived by his son, Don Green, and his daughter Cheryl (John) Donovan and his adoring grand-daughters, Alisha and Daron Donovan.
Bob’s greatest passion was building and racing go-carts and later stock cars. He felt that driving his modified stock made his 5’3” stature feel more like it was 6’. After ten years of touring tracks all over eastern Ontario and northern New York State a sweet French speaking lady standing track side caught his eye. Neither spoke the other’s first language but Bob said it was never an issue because “they spoke the language of love”. Terry quickly became the love of Bob’s life and they did everything together. Bobby Green,#18, retired from the track to start a family and take over the family business, Brockville Cleaners Ltd.
Weekends at the track were replaced with camping, boating and motorcycling. As the children grew the decision was made to purchase a cottage on their beloved Rideau Canal. Countless hours were spent tubing the kids behind the boat, throwing horseshoes and puttering, puttering, puttering! McGiever would be proud.
His grand-daughters provided a new kind of joy in Bob’s life. One filled with endless teasing and building swings, push peddle cart tracks and of course giving spider tickles. Grandpa Bob will be sadly missed for always making them laugh and making lite of any situation.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Royal Brock Retirement Home for their unwavering care, compassion and professionalism.
