Obituary of Shirley Buote
Shirley Joy Buote passed away on October 17th, 2025, in the Brockville General Hospital after a brief illness.
Visitation and Funeral service will be held at Barclay Funeral Home located at 137 Pearl Street East on Saturday October 25th at 11am - 1pm. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery on Lyn Road with Father Shim officiating.
Shirley was born in Brockville, Ontario, on October 15th, 1938, the oldest of 5 daughters to Connor and Esme Pyke. Along with caring for her own family and the children of her extended family, she operated a quality home daycare for decades, supporting numerous working parents in her community. The family grew up on Brighten Crescent, followed by Aldershot Avenue. After the passing of her husband Dave, she moved to the Legion Village Apartments and, more recently, to the Mayfield Retirement Home in Prescott.
She was greatly appreciated for her commitment to volunteering at Leeds & Grenville Interval House, where she cared for children while their moms received support services. For many years, she was an active member of the Brockville Legion's Ladies Auxiliary.
Shirley is survived by her son, David of Ottawa, daughter Shelli Warren (Chris), and son Marc (Trisha) of Brockville. Her memory will be cherished by her sister Joan Pakeman (Jack) and grandchildren Danielle Van Dyk (Milo), Connor and Kea Buote and great-granddaughter Ellie Shae Van Dyk.
Predeceased by her husband Dave, sisters Patsy Lumsden (Allan), Sandra Davis, and Sue Anne Eady and dear niece Cathy May (Earl). She is remembered warmly by her four sisters' children, neighbourhood children, and the many she cared for over the years.
Memorial donations may be made to Leeds & Grenville Interval House. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Brenda VanDusen of B Cause I Care, Donna Orr of VON Smile Program, Judy Spencer of Shear Dimensions, and Anita Jardine, who were a source of friendship and support for their mom. The family also greatly appreciates the healthcare teams at the Brockville General Hospital ER, 2East, Palliative Care and the residents' care team at the Mayfield Retirement Home.
