Leslie Woodhall

Obituary of Leslie Charles Woodhall

Leslie Woodhall, 90, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend - passed away on September 5th, 2023, at the Brockville General Hospital.

He was born to Grace (Howe) and William Woodall in London, England on September 27th, 1932.  As a survivor of the London blitz and relentless terror of V-weapons commonly known as “doodlebugs”, Les's youth was dominated by World War II, later enlisting in the British Royal Air Force.

Les had a passion for motorcycles and was a talented Motocross competitor. One fateful day Les caught the eye of a young lady named Valerie Cooper.  In love, the couple married on March 8th1958 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

In 1962 the young couple packed a steam trunk and boarded the Queen Mary on a transatlantic voyage to start a new life in Canada. The final leg of the journey bound for Toronto by train was interrupted by telegram offering a job in Brockville at Automatic Electric - where he retired as a Processing Engineer,

A family home was constructed on a country road west of Brockville where they continued to live.  Les is survived by his beloved wife Val (Cooper) Woodhall, eldest son Kent Woodhall of Ottawa and Ian Woodhall (Kimberley Davy) of Mallorytown, and grandson Lucas Woodhall.

Les had a tremendous talent for engineering and “figuring things out” well before computers or google existed.  His skill is best evidenced by the cottage he single handedly constructed on Crosby Lake.

A private family celebration of Leslie’s life will be held.  Arrangements entrusted to the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. E. Brockville.

In memory of Leslie, donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.  Messages of condolences may be sent online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com.
