Guy Foley

Obituary of Guy Foley

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Guy Regan Foley of Elginburg, age 66 years; entered into rest surrounded by Family at Kingston Health Sciences Centre on Friday November 24, 2023. Loving husband of Susan (nee Ralph). Treasured father of Roger (Alexis), the late Ben (Jess survives), Jamie and Dan (Sarah). Cherished Grandfather of Cara, Arianna, Caleb, Mason, Devin, Brentley, Lucas, Colten, Maddy, Logan and Patrick.  He will be greatly missed by his sisters Jackie Livingstone (Daryl) and Mitzi Matthews (Dan)

Guy grew up on the family farm in Rockfield Ontario. Young and old, everyone contributed; Guy learned by watching and doing. He learned to cook and make pies, spending time in the kitchen with his Grandmother. He learned to bake bread and to weld by watching neighbours. By 8 years old, he was tall enough and had enough weight to work the clutch of the tractor; being the only son he became his dad’s right hand man. A strong work ethic and an enterprising nature Guy would cut hay on the family farm and then hay on the neighbour’s farm and then use their equipment to cut hay on the next farm. Guy won many ribbons showing Registered Jersey cattle under the name Foleacres, throughout Leeds and Grenville.

Guy's focus in school was Electrical and Wood Shop. His first job off the farm was working for a mason mixing mortor and laying block. When the farm was sold in1975, Guy went north to Thunder Bay to work for Great Lakes Pulp and Paper. After a few years, he returned home to Black Rapids (Lansdowne) and attended trade school at Algonquin College in Ottawa.  After completing his apprenticeship, graduating, working for several companies and meeting and marrying Susan and starting a family, he opened his own cabinetmaking business in Seeley’s Bay in 1983. Following this, his career path led him to Jensen’s hiring on as a carpenter.

Guy’s forty year career as Project Manager of Jensen Building Ltd., Is a true testament to his loyalty and dedication. He leaves behind a lasting legacy both in the projects he completed and the construction community he touched. Greatly respected by friends and colleagues. Mentor to many. He will be missed beyond words by his entire work family, especially Jorgen, Lisa, Karl and Jessika.

Guy was multi-faceted. Skilled and knowlegable in many trades; yet he could 'McGiverize' a solution and think 'outside the box' to get the job done on time, without comprimizing quality or safety. He was an avid Bass fisherman. He spoiled his dogs and cats although he would deny that. He loved to dance; he would deny that too. He was a great cook. Family gatherings will never be the same without this 'guy' and his famous Foley beans. His passing has left a huge hole in so many lives.

Fondly remembered by his Uncle Bob (Norma); Guy leaves behind a large extended family, cousins, nieces and nephews, a community of friends, neighbours and colleagues, who will miss him immensely. Guy was predeceased by his parents Roy and Margaret (nee Commerford) Foley and Susan’s parents Jack and Joyce (nee Creasor) Ralph.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bob McCarthy for his companionship and support throughout this difficult time.
