It is with great sadness that we announce Bill's passing, surrounded by the love of his family, on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Brockville General Hospital at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Gwendylin (Woods), and loving Dad and Poppa of Bruce & Cathy, Ryan (Melanie) and Julie (Nathan); David and Janice, Darryl (Calli) and Chris (Lindsey); Debbie and Bradley Cozens, Betty Ann and Meredith; Mark and Joan, Shannon (Sean) and Angela (Cody); Lindsay and Virginia, Alecia and Rachel; and Dana and Matt Wren, Jena and Nicholas. Also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces Islay, Annie (Ellery) and Kara Lisa, and nephew Peter Culp (Patricia). Fondly remembered by his cousin Jack Paul (Dorothy). Bill was predeceased by his wife Betty (Weeks), by sisters Norma Culp and Carol Paul, and by brothers Ray and John. Bill was a WWII Veteran who served in the Royal Canadian Navy on both HMCS Saskatchewan and Whitethroat. He is the longest serving member and a Life Member of the Brockville Lions Club, a founder of the Brockville Flying Club, and a fifty year Elder of First Presbyterian Church. Most important to him was being an owner of one of the Thousand Islands, aptly named Paul Island, where many wonderful summers were spent throughout his long, happy and well deserved retirement.
Honouring Bill's wishes, visitation will take place at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville on Sunday, November 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In celebration of his life, the funeral service will take place in the Chapel Monday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Oakland Cemetery. The Brockville Lions Club is invited to gather for a memorial tribute on Sunday at 4 p.m. In remembrance, donations to the First Presbyterian Church, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society Weekender Program will be gratefully acknowledged.
