Kathleen Gardiner

Obituary of Kathleen Gardiner

A long time Lyn resident passed away at St. Lawrence Lodge on Friday, March 14, 2014 having celebrated her 97th birthday 3 days previously, the daughter of Reverend A. Samual Doggett and Edith Breens. Kay moved to Lyn in 1936 with her two brothers, Ronald and Leslie, when her father became the Methodist Minister in the Village of Lyn. In 1942, she married Alvin Gardiner (deceased 1996) and together they operated a dairy farm at Seeley’s, north of Lyn. For the past 3 1/2 years, she has resided at St. Lawrence Lodge. Loving mother of Sylvia (Rob Smith) of Lyn, devoted nana and grandma Kay to Shanda Foxton (Brent McAllister, Cooper & Keegan ) of Maitland, Brian Foxton (Deanna, Riley & Taylor) of Kanata, Shelby Hayes (Rich, Orla, Teigue, Euan & Esme) of Cambridge. Predeceased by infant son, John Douglas Gardiner. Fondly remembered by longtime friend and CNIB companion Vivian Alguire. A private family memorial service will be held at the Barclay Funeral Home 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville on Saturday March 22, 2014, and Interment Oakland Cemetery. Donations in Kay’s memory to Christ United Church Lyn will be gratefully acknowledged by the family. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at St. Lawrence Lodge for Kay’s care. She leaves a legacy of being a very determined, strong-willed woman, with a kiss to the hand for all those she loved and a smile to warm your heart. “A smile costs nothing but gives much, it enriches those who give it, it takes but a moment but the memory lasts forever.” Sylvia & Rob will remember always the compassionate devotion and comfort given to Mom and to themselves by the Lodge staff during the last few days of her life – she is truly at peace now.
