Joy Strachan

Obituary of Joy Strachan

STRACHAN, Joy Joy Strachan, loving wife of Pierre Mercier, both of Lansdowne Ontario, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2013 at her home surrounded by the love of friends and family. Joy is predeceased by her parents, Irene (Babe) and Jim Strachan of Orillia. She was the best sister of Glenn (Donna), Clifford (Marie) and Donald (Rossanne), and niece of Jim Johnston. She had many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews, too many to list, but much loved. Joy made many friends where ever she passed, be it through her long career as a psychoeducational consultant with the Dufferin Peel Separate School Board, or her many activities in retirement. Joy was an interesting, charming, caring, multi-talented woman of substance. Her many passions included long distance sailing, gourmet cooking, gardening, local food, travel, antiques, land conservation and animal shelters. Her retirement years were a whirlwind of activity contributing to the many community groups with which she was involved. She grew to love her adopted community and the unique natural beauty and culture she found there. Joy was deeply grateful for the excellent care she received from the Cancer Centre Southeastern Ontario, especially her oncologist Dr. Hammad as well as the many community resources such as Community Care Access Centre South East, the superlative care of Dr. Michelle Casey her family physician and the many friends and neighbours who provided love and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one or more of the many deserving organizations that you believe she would like you to support. There will be no funeral service, but there will be a celebration of her outstanding life at her home Stoneboat Farm in Lansdowne in the coming spring.
