Obituary of Charles Graham

Passed away peacefully at the Wellington House Nursing Home, Prescott on January 7, 2004. Born in Florence Cape Breton, January 18 1912. He was the son of the late Charles and Isabell (Day) Graham. Charles was the last surviving member of his large family. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis Xavier in 1937 and went on to teach English in his earlier years. He joined the Army during World War II. Captain Graham did his tour of duty as an artillery instructor in Newfoundland. He returned home and completed his University at St. Francis Xavier and became licensed to practice as a Doctor of Optometry. He set up his office on Commercial Street in Glace Bay and maintained his practice for over 40 years. He was of a quiet nature spending many hours hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Beagle Club and enjoyed hunting with his dogs. He will be sadly missed by his wife Margaret (Attwood) Graham and his step children Sylvia (Jim) McManus, Eric (Marva) Attwood and their families of Brockville, and Jean Attwood and family of Morrison Road, Sydney. They were long time resident's at 17 Edina St, Glace Bay and were able to maintain their home because of the support of their neighbors and friends especially Clifford and Shelia Cross, Lloyd and Diane Mercer and Amelia Boutlier. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. In memoriams to Newsom United Church or the Charity of your choice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
