Obituary of Marjorie Alexander

MARJORIE WINIFRED ALEXANDER MARJORIE WINIFRED ALEXANDER died peacefully at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto on Friday December 13, 2013 at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband Ian McMurtry Alexander and her son David William Alexander. She is survived by her daughter Deborah and her two grandchildren James and Gordon Sumner. Marjorie was born in Montreal on June 21, 1923 and was raised and attended highschool in the Eastern Townships, Quebec. She attended McGill University and was a graduate of the Mother House in Montreal. She moved to Ottawa for most of the war years where she worked with the Red Cross Corps. In 1949 she moved to Brockville, Ontario with her husband Ian. Marjorie will be best remembered in the community for her work in the Brockville Theatre Guild where she participated in over thirty productions, winning three best actress awards, and was an Honourary Life Member of this organization. Marjorie was also a charter member and Honourary Life Member of the May Court Club of Canada. She was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church and was head of their Altar Guild for many years. Marjorie was a very social person and had a large number of friends who loved her dearly. She extended kindness to many people. Marjorie at one time was an avid golfer and skier and in later life took great pleasure in her many duplicate bridge games. She loved her home and lovely garden, was a wonderful cook and entertained graciously. She travelled the world with her husband Ian and latterly with several friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Chisholm and all the wonderful nurses and staff who cared for Marjorie at St. Michael’s Hospital. At Marjorie’s request, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service in honour of Marjorie will be held at St. Lawrence Anglican Church, 80 Pine Street Brockville, on Saturday January 18th, 2014 at 11:30 am. Reception to follow. In memory of Marjorie, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Arrangements in care of the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. E., Brockville.
