Obituary of Annie Roberta Godwin

Annie Roberta (Saunders) Godwin Annie Roberta(Bertie) Godwin passed away on Wednesday June 26, 2013 at age 81 with her family by her side. Roberta was recently predeceased by her loving husband William (Bill) Godwin and son Thomas(Tommy) Godwin. Roberta was also predeceased by her loving parents, Bert and Irene Saunders, very dear granddaughter Brooke Clark, and sister-in-law Sandra Anson(Godwin). Roberta is survived by her loving children; Debra Clark, William(Susan) Godwin, Diane Godwin Sheridan (David), and John (Franziska) Godwin. Gramma Godwin is survived by her dear loving grandchildren; Jamie Clark, Dana, Nicholas and Adam Sheridan and Christopher Godwin. Roberta is also survived by her loving brother Baynard(Babe) and his wife Sheila Saunders, nieces (Brenda (Darren and little Scotty), Allison(Andrew and little Ella), and nephew Robert ); family in-laws Allan and Judy Godwin (Angela and Michael); Gail Godwin; Lee Anson (Lee, Dale and Kimberly). Born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, Roberta worked as a secretary for the department of agriculture. Upon moving to Brockville with her husband in the 1950’s, Roberta held an executive secretary position with a major manufacturer. Roberta left the workforce to raise all of her children until they reached high school level, at which time she returned and held various secretarial positions in Brockville until retirement. Bertie dearly loved all of her family and was an exceptional loving mother: with gentle kindness, strength and overwhelming patience, she enjoyed all of the challenges that motherhood held. Roberta’s commitment to marriage and devotion to family was a true reflection of a real life love story. Roberta was a talented artist and also enjoyed needlework, many crafts and reading books, especially poetry. With her loving smile Bertie enjoyed walking and experiencing all of the beauty of nature. Roberta was of kind spirit, speaking with soft tenderness with all of her friends and acquaintances who admired her dearly. In a private family service at Oakland Cemetery, Roberta was laid to peaceful rest into eternity with her loving husband Bill, youngest son Tommy and granddaughter Brooke, each of whom she dearly missed. In memory of Roberta, those wishing, may make a donation to any of the YMCA of Brockville Children’s programs. Arrangements in care of the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. E., Brockville.
