Obituary of Herbert F. Crumpler
Peacefully, surrounded by family at the Brockville General Hospital Charles Street Site on Saturday May 24, 2014. Beloved husband and best friend of Irene for 60 years. Bert leaves behind son Gordon (Leona), daughters Barbara (Ross Thomson) and Heather (Tom Burton). Predeceased by son Austin (Julie) in 1979. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Bert was born in London, England on May 23, 1920. He was involved with Rover Scouts and was decorated in 1939 by Lord Baden Powell for bravery during the blitz in 1939. He later joined the Royal Marines in 1941 (commando division). In 1947 he immigrated to Canada, settled in St. Catharines and worked at various jobs and retired after 32 years at General Motors as General Supervisor quality Control Gear Division. He and Irene relocated to Brockville in 2007 to be closer to family. Bert delighted in his friendships with wonderful neighbors. He was a member of Brockville Seniors Club # 85. Bert retained his wonderful sense of humor to the end, and we were delighted to sing Happy Birthday to him on May 23rd. A Celebration of his life will be held at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. East Brockville on Sunday June 1st, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memoriams to Brockville Club # 85 or the Brockville General Hospital Auxiliary .
