ZAHAYKO, BETTE EUPHAMIA April 3, 1933 to May 28, 2014 In her 81st year after a brief but courageous battle with Acute Leukemia, Bette died suddenly in Brockville General Hospital. Predeceased by her husband James, parents Mary and Albert Skene, and sister Maida; she is survived by her daughters Jill Fox, San Pedro, California, and Jean Burton-Fox (Phil) Prescott, Ontario. She was a loving Grandmother to Wilson and Riley Burton-Fox. Bette moved throughout Canada early in adulthood and settled in Toronto were she had a long career with the Federal Government. She enjoyed her retirement and was always on the go. She loved being around people, friends, teammates and strangers alike. Bette and Jim enjoyed being up at their summer home in Buckhorn for over 25 years, always traveling about in one of Jim’s boats. Their falls and winters were filled with curling at the East York Curling Club. Bette was an avid curler, a love that she has passed along to her grandsons at early age. They are both still curling today. After Jim’s passing; Bette’s passion for travel continued to grow. She cruised the world with friends and alone. No matter where she was she made new friends along the way. There will be a celebration of her life held Tuesday September 23, 2014 from 6 to 9 pm at the East York Curling Club 901 Cosburn Avenue in Toronto. In keeping with Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place and interment will be held at a later date. In memory of Bette, donations to the Prescott Curling Club PO Box 1482, Prescott, ON K0E 1T0 would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
