Obituary of Frances Fodey
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Fran. She left this world on Saturday, October 2nd 2010 at the age of 79 years young. She is predeceased by her husband and soul mate, John T. Fodey, with whom she had six children that were the centre of her life: Terry (Femia), Tom (Linda), Sandy, Sue, Greg (Faith) and Sarah. Fran also leaves in mourning several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fran’s life was a rich and happy one. Born in Dulcemaine, Ontario to Harry and Hazel Steacy, Fran enjoyed her youth with her seven siblings: Iris (Bill Landon), Elmer (Elaine), Charlotte (the late Bill Chisamore), Lolly (the late Don Coughlar), the late Bud Steacy, the late George Steacy and Sheila (Bill Hayden). Fran pursued her registered nursing designation (Class of 1953), studying at the Kingston Psychiatric Hospital, the Toronto General Hospital and ultimately at the Brockville General. She enjoyed many happy years nursing before having to take an early retirement with the onset of her rheumatoid arthritis. After leaving nursing, Fran also enjoyed working in various positions in the fields of education and hospitality. John and Fran raised their family on SandBay Road on a successful dairy farm. This was the place they called home for over 45 years. Fran enjoyed the last few years of her life at her home in Kingston, surrounded by her antiques, her crossword puzzles, her beloved cats and her varied, and numerous friends. Fran’s door was always open; you could never visit without being fed and offered encouraging words and advice and the coffee was always hot. The courage she demonstrated throughout her life was admirable. Her physical challenges were great, but her passion and zeal for life never faltered. The family would like to offer heartfelt and special thanks to Sue Fodey who dedicated her every day to the personal and special care of her mother. We hope God will care for Fran as well as she has cared for all of us. Visitation at Barclay Funeral Home, Lansdowne Tuesday, October 5th from 7 – 9 pm; Wednesday, October 6th from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm followed by a funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Church on Thursday Oct 7th at 11 a.m., Lansdowne. Donations to the St Patrick’s Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciated by the family.
