I just found the obituary for Kerry Wiltse. My Grandmother, Rachel Duffy(Wiltse) was Kerry's father, Ezsa's sister. My husband and I were driving big-rigs cross country and we stopped in Brockville to look up my Great Uncle Ezra. They invited us into their home to visit. Ezra looked so much like my Granny Rachel, and Kerry was nice to us. She was expecting at the time. Please if any of the Wiltse family happens to read this, my mom Joan Duffy-Graham and I send very belated condolences to the family. God Bless. Donna Luke

I just found out the sad news and I wanted to send my sincere condolences to her family and to her friends.

It has taken me a while to be able to write this.
Kerry and Reg Lavergne and I were the administration team at the Ottawa Technical Learning centre and we worked really well together. Kerry held the history of the school when Reg and I arrived and she was just on top of everything.
She was an excellent listener and loved and understood the students in our care. She loved to talk about Carter and kayaking and gardening. We would eat together and she would let us know that she always made a mess, but she always cleaned it up and we always knew where she sat!
Kerry will be missed by so many people in so many ways. Her celebration of life was joyful and arranged by Kerry-just the way it should have been.

I could not attend Kerry's service. To the family I never met, and the friends I regret forgetting after the realty of Kerry's passing let me share my memories for a laugh. I have a real blackmail picture of the two of us not more than 3 years old during swimming lessons at Saint Lawrence Park. My goodness we were cute....but chubby....well me not Kerry.... Ezra and Sybil would laugh as they took me into their home as a second daughter. I would love to connect with any of our childhood friends.....there are too many to name....this is a sad realization of life.

My condolences to Kerry's family. The service was so heart-felt and honorable---what a fitting tribute to the remarkable Kerry! Carter, your mom never stopped talking about you--she was immensely proud of you.
I worked with Kerry at Merivale HS where we shared a solid working relationship that became a friendship. She was an outstanding vice-principal who genuinely cared about all students. The tougher the situation the more Kerry seemed to be in her element. I feel so blessed for those great moments: supporting students together, sharing a laugh and a glass of wine, sharing a great conversation. Thank you for making such an impact. Kerry, I wish you eternal peace and happiness for a life well-lived and for touching all of us. I will remember you always as an example of living life to the fullest!

I was so grateful for being able to speak at the service. Stennet and Carter - my deepest sympathies. Meredith - thank you for everything.
I have included what I said at the service below:
Kerry and I met during our bachelor of education year. I was wowed by this larger than life, laughing, beautiful competent woman.
We began a friendship grounded in shared milestones, moments of adventure and deeply held shared values and commitment to the work of being an educator.
At first she thought she might like to go teach abroad, and gave herself the nickname Cartahena Kerry. But her career led her to the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, and they were lucky to get her. Her deep teaching experience led her to work with some of society’s most marginalized students. Kerry’s spirituality, akin to Canada’s Indigenous peoples, allowed her to see that everything is sacred, and this belief was forever evident in how she treated all people. All of her students and all of her colleagues knew that no matter what the circumstance, they would receive fair and supportive treatment from Kerry. She had the ability to bring out the best in people.
I was lucky to count her as a close friend. We had so much fun. And Kerry being Kerry, our fun was more often than not marked by mishaps. Right? – she had a knack. Luckily, somewhere around age 30, she did finally admit that perhaps she had more mishaps or funny coincidences than most people.
Our mishaps involved cars, dogs, canoes, nylons, outhouses, juniper bushes, air mattresses, and white water rafts, to name a few. With Kerry, even opening a can of pop could be an adventure. But this knack stems from her enthusiasm for all things.
Ralph Waldo Emerson may have had her in mind when he said about what matters in this world: It is not length of life, but depth of life.
Emerson was an American poet – who, like Kerry, loved the outdoors, felt everything was sacred, and he thought carefully about his life, his philosophy, his actions and his friends. For Kerry, I want to add family to that list. I know most of you will find Kerry in his poem which I will read – it is titled: Success
Success
To laugh often and love much;
to win the respect of intelligent persons
and the affection of children;
to earn the approbation of honest critics
and to endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to give of one’s self;
to leave the world a little better,
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;
to have played and laughed with enthusiasm
and sung with exultation;
to know that even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived –
this is to have succeeded.
(Ralph Waldo Emerson)

What a wonderful tribute to Kerry. So proud and pleased with everyone who spoke and Kerry certainly is every single thing that was said about her plus so much more. Our hearts go out to Carter who had the best mom ever and to Kerry for having to go far too soon.
I will miss you sooooo much Wilts. Thank you for being such a great friend. Thank you for liking and accepting me, flaws and all and for never judging but teaching me not to take myself so seriously and teasing me about them to show me they didn't matter to you. You taught me to like myself and to stand up for myself and we shared so many fun times with Jen and Pam and Dianne and Michelle and so many others. You told us one night that you were as "ferocious as a jungle cat" and you were, right to the end. You will never really die, my friend, cuz we all carry so much of you around in our hearts. Love you Kerry xoxoxo Kim

She was one of the most friesndlest Vice-Principal and friend I've ever had. I worked with Kerry at Woodroffe for many years. Hearing about her transition yesterday made me happy for knowing her and sad, at the same time. Journey Mercies Kerry! For your loved ones, you are only a whisper away and they are better for having known you, an understanding captured in my favourite movie:
"I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone."

I have so many happy memories of the time I spent with Kerry over the years. My favourite memories are from the numerous times when I came to visit Brockville during our Christmas vacations and we took walks in the snow with my dog Nellie. Or our weekends at my parents' cottage in Fenelon Falls with my brother Mike and Ruthie. I feel blessed to have known Kerry and shared part of her life. I pray for Kerry and for all of her loved ones, especially Carter and Stennett and her close inner circle of friends. I am thinking of you all and sending love and support. xoxo

I remember being so stressed out with school and trying to get my credits all in order. I was called down to the office to discuss my credits when Mrs.Wiltse called me in, I was really scared. I was emotionally all over the place but to my surprise she was kind hearted, understanding and most of all had this mothering feeling because she did care about you. I think she is a great role model for many. One hour of her time did and still does impact my life everyday.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Kerry's passing. She was vice principal at Merivale high school 7 years ago when I was working there, just after the birth of my first child. Even thinking about her still makes me smile every time. She was a ball of energy, a fierce supporter of the students, and a wonderful role model to me. She was the first person I encountered who made me consider going into administration because she showed me how much good one person could do from that position. I just can't believe that such energy and goodness is gone from the world. My sincere condolences to all of you.

Kerry,
I am so grateful to have known such a wonderful person. You have always been in my life because of being such good friends with my mom. But these last few years I have gotten to know you myself to share stories and memories with. I will hold these memories close to my heart. I love you and will never forget that beautiful laugh and smile of yours. Please watch over us and grant us with beautiful flowers that bloom in the spring, and with river sunsets that are unimaginable. The end is never the end. . .xoxo
