Peacefully , at the Brockville General Hospital Garden St. Site, on April 2nd 2016, Raul Cirne in his 82nd year Dearly beloved husband, for 55 years, of Esther (nee Vernon). Loving father of Raul G. (Kim) of Sydenham, Stuart (Terrie) of Lyndhurst and David (Joyce) of Cobourg. Sadly missed by his eight grandchildren: Alyssa, Eric, Christopher, Colin, Stanley, Benjamin, Victoria & Brian. Survived by his brothers Geoffrey (Jean), Donald (Betty), and numerous nephews, nieces & cousins, both in Canada and England. Predeceased by his parents, Raul & Eugenia, his sisters, Barbara & Patricia, and his first wife, Freda (Sharpe). Raul, together his wife Esther and their three young sons, emigrated in 1966, and, instead of going to live in Hamilton, as planned, decided to make Brockville their home, a decision that they have never regretted. Within days, he found employment, as a draftsman at Phillips Cables, and later at Black and Decker, where he was, one of the three employees, named on the U.S. Patent, for the redesigned Workmate. During a 30 year career as a Real Estate Broker, which started in 1978, he was the driving force, in the fledgling development company, that brought the Brock Woods subdivision to the market. Socially, in 1971, he was President of the Brockville Jaycees, and was subsequently honored with a Life Membership in the worldwide JCI organization. Since 1974, he was a continuously and heavily involved member of, both, the Brockville Operatic Society and the Brockville Theatre Guild, and was awarded Life Memberships in both organizations. He was a member of the BOS Board, on several occasions over the years, and backstage, was involved in the design and construction of the sets for numerous shows, for both groups. One of these was ‘Singin’ in the rain’, after which he became known as ‘the Rainman’ for his special effects in bringing rain to the stage of the Brockville Arts Centre . He was also deeply involved in the drive to raise funds for, and the design of, the Musi-Theatre extension, at the rear of the Brockville Arts Centre. He was instrumental in the creation of the fully equipped workshop area and also the building of the cages, in which the extensive collection of jointly-owned costumes are housed. In 2006, Raul was inducted into the Brockville and Area Music and Performing Arts Hall of Fame. Recently Raul was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Operatic Society and was honored by the renaming of the Arts Centre workshop the “Raul Cirne Workshop”. He was a multi-year member of the Probus Club of Brockville, being Secretary for ten years and then looked after Special Events, which included numerous outings to theatres and other venues. His other ‘long-term’ commitment was as Treasurer of the Social Dance Club, from its 2nd dance in 1993, until fairly recently. His love of dancing, ‘Big Band’ and ‘lively’ music was a lifelong passion and this was reflected in his wishes that any remembrance get-together, of him, should be a ‘happy’ one. Family will receive friends at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. East Brockville on Thursday April 7th, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Private Family Service will be held. In memory of Raul donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Brockville Operatic Society Inc or to Brockville District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
