John, Paul and family . We are very sorry for your loss. Jack was a larger than life for me growing up only a few blocks from your home. I soon learned that he was a special resident of Brockville for the many ways he contributed to the community.. Brockville would be a much better place today if we had a few more characters like Jack. Again we are deeply saddened by your loss. Larry & Annette Lunman

My deepest sympathy to Jack's family and friends . I always think of Jack , and other members of The RCR Association , who were instrumental in getting the park on Ormond street , named RCR Park . I wish to dedicate this poem in memory of Jack .
A LITTLE STEP AWAY
To close the eye , to fall asleep , To draw a labored breath .
To find release from daily cares , In what we know as death...
Is this a crowning of a life . The aim or end thereof ?
The totaled sum of consciousness , The ripened fruit of life ?
It cannot be , for works of God , Are wrought for nobler ends
And those away continue on , In the hearts of kin and friends .
It cannot be , for they live on A little step away ~~
The soul , the everlasting life , Has found a better day ...

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our dear cousin, Jack. It was only a short number of weeks ago that we attended his 90th birthday celebration. We were very gratified to see so many in attendance to celebrate Jack and his achievements. He was surrounded by his grandchildren, and his "kids" John and Noreen, and Paul, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. It was unfortunate that Marge could not attend and enjoy in the celebrations. We wish the immediate family every comfort, and hold Jack close in our prayers. Kindest regards and condolences,
Karen and Robert Shepherd
(Grandchildren of deceased Bill Shepherd Sr. (Estelle) of Port Colborne, ON)

My condolences to all of Jack's family. He was one of Brockville's true characters. My father, Matt, went back to his days at Orient Hosiery, and almost got involved in the bait and tackle shop, if memory serves. My thoughts go out to John and Paul, who I know best from my teenage years. It is tough to see legends slip away.

Dear Johnny/Paul/Family
It is with great sadness to hear about the passing of Jack. On behalf of myself and wife Joanne please accept our condolences. Jack was an institution here in Brockville and will be very much missed. He was one of the most colourful and caring contributors here in our community. I had nothing but the greatest admiration and respect for him and will miss his smile and loud laugh! I will always remember him best hopping on the goal keepers cage in his Indian outfit at the Braves games. He served our country and our community and they just don't make them like him anymore!

I'm so very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He loved to tell me stories, especially of when he was overseas, the tragic ones and lots of funny ones. One of his favorites, his buddies set up a makeshift bar in Holland and made him bartend because he was still to young to drink! I believe he was 17. Sorry Maggie, John, Paul, and Lisa and families
