I had the pleasure of meeting Gene and Mary Pat back in 2002 when I started at The Berlin Senior Center in Berlin, CT. He was one of the guys that came every morning for coffee. Gene would always make sure to stop at my office door to say good morning. I found him to be an intelligent guy. I enjoyed listening to him and the rest of the group talking about everything from local politics to sports to world issues. I took a lot way from those discussions. I also discovered that Gene was a true gentlemen - respectful and kind to all. You do not find many men of Gene's caliber. I was sad the day that Gene and Mary Pat moved to Canada but made sure I kept in touch and I'm glad that I continued our friendship via pictures, videos and emails. I will always cherish the many fond memories I have of him. Til we meet again, my friend rest in peace.

Sandy - Larry and I were sorry to hear of Eugene's passing. Unfortunately it was after the service. Your parents were very good neighbours - I always enjoyed chatting with them - and more recently with your Dad - he had lots of good stories!
You and Lyndee will miss him alot. Our sincere condolences to your families. Pat and Larry

Sandy and Lyndee we are so sorry for the loss of your wonderful dad. He was a very special man. Always had a smile for everyone! We have so many good memories of him and your dear mom. When we moved to Berlin CT. back in 1998 we became neighbors, but as time passed they became part of our family. Our children knew them as "Mr. Gene and Mrs. Pat". They were a part of every special time in our lives. 30 years! We loved them ever so much. They celebrated the good times with us and held us tight during those not so good times.
They were very devoted to each other and their family. He is at peace now and in the arms of your mom. Together again at last.
We will never forget them and how special they were to our family. They are forever in our hearts.
Sending our love and prayers to both of you and your families during this very sad time. I will miss talking with your dad. He loved to talk about the "good old days".
Love and hugs,
Linda, Bill, Billy and Rachel

I'm lucky enough to have been a great-niece...and even luckier to have had such a great, great-uncle (and aunt!).
Every summer Aunt Pat & Uncle Jeep drove up to Brockville to visit - these are some of my favourite memories as a kid. My Nan would go crazy planning activities (which always included garage-sale-ing and researching our family tree); My Grampie would get all his old music out to share sing-a-longs and wow Uncle Jeep; Aunt Pat would teach me new exercises that would help me stay fit (the fire hydrant was a favourite); Uncle Jeep would always make a joke about how I was almost taller than him (I think I passed him at 13 ;) They would bring recipes that were 'heart healthy' that would never fly in my Nan's kitchen, but she always seemed interested to please Pat ;); The sing-a-longs almost always ended up with my Nan and Aunt Pat dressing me up in some sort of 'olden days' costume and Grampie & Uncle Jeep teaching me lyrics to a song and recording me, telling me I'd be famous some day ('Charlie My Boy' was their favourite); And...they always brought me Wise potato chips, which for some reason tasted better than any other chip I'd ever had.
Well, I'm not famous, but I am very lucky and extremely grateful. I have so many memories from that time in my life (too many to share here). They showed me the importance of sisters...and family...and being loud and having fun.
I have such a special place in my heart for you Uncle Jeep. I'm so glad I was able to briefly hold your hand last week and give you a kiss on the forehead. May you be at peace with the gang, listening to Glenn Miller, with that beautiful smile beaming from ear to ear.
To Sandy & Lyndee - so incredibly sorry for your loss. Your parents were so proud of you and loved you so much. Most definitely their greatest accomplishments ;) Sending love and hugs! xoxo

Dear Sandy and Lyndee,
Your father was a special person assuring everyone around him of a happy smile and a thoughtful story. He was also a very good friend to my father......when other family members were many miles away they kept the good times going. I will always treasure our many holidays together as kids, and special weekend outings, especially the time I fell into the creek in the mountains of California. Cold and wet as I was there was still much laughter.
As hard as this is for you both right now, remember that he and your mom are together again and looking down on you and your families. You will always feel their love.
Prayers and hugs to you both.
Kurt and mary

I have such fond memories of "Mr. Chartrand," as I knew him, growing up in Anaheim, California, where his daughter Sandra and I were best friends. He always had a smile on his face, and was so welcoming! He so loved and was so devoted to his family, and was generous in many ways. He was a man of deep faith, which I know sustained him through many trials in his life. What a blessing to know that he is healthy now, with his Saviour, and receiving the love of the Blessed Mother. May his memory be eternal!

> Sandy I am so sorry to hear about Jeep's passing but I believe he is in a far better place & is now at peace. I wish we had all the answers to those questions but unfortunately that isn't the case. Cathrine & I went up to see him on Monday & he woke up when we talked to him. He did try to talk but of course it was difficult to make out what he was trying to say. I am so glad we did that and got to tell him we loved him because we really did.

> Your Dad mad us laugh & smile with his humor and sparkling personality. Since he has been gone the group isn't the same & it has left a big hole in my heart. Jeep was a very fun-loving, gregarious, and witty gentleman. I adore his description of his exercise treadmill as the "dreadmill". I use his expression a lot in my everyday encounters with others. I am so glad I was fortunate to meet him through my work with the Alzheimer Society.
