Not sure why i thought of Skippy today (Oct 2022) but decided to look him up on the internet
Sad to see he passed away so young.
I remember Skippy when I was a young kid. He was always a friendly and welcoming face . A smiling and friendly fixture in downtown Brockville and at the old Memorial centre wherever the action was.
One of those people who has left a positive memory on me even though he l had no idea who I was .

So sorry to read of Skippy's passing. When we were growing up Skippy was always there for hockey of any sort, in the rink or on the street. He was just somene we expected to show up. His colorful vocabulary was just part of his character - and you expected that. Rest in Peace Nipper

Sad to see the story in the R&T today but then I smiled and thought of the Cheers theme song;
Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows your name.
You wanna go where people know, people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows your name.
Down at the old Memorial Centre everyone knew Skippy and met him with a smile; we were all the same, hockey fans.

Skip was always a part of our lives growing up on Water St. When my parents moved to Water St. in '69, our backyard and Skip's yard met. Renting the ice at the old Memorial Center or road hockey in the Seaway Traders parking lot, Skip was always there. He will always be remembered.

RIP Skippy... Many times I was fishing at blockhouse, just to pass time, Skippy would drop by to see how they were biting. Always friendly. From the time I was a kid, until I moved out of the city, Skippy was always there, and always had a smile or a wave.
God bless you Skippy

Skippy was fifteen years older than my peer group and we were always jerking around but Skippy made it known that the Memorial Center was his rink and it was his job to keep us kids in line, and he did and we always had a certain respect for him. Like Con Darling Skippy is a Brockville icon and I hope Brockville names a rink in his name. Keep your stick on the ice. We'll see you in the big rink in the sky.

Now far from home, my memories are wondrous of the time spent with Skippy, going round & round the rink on weekends when hockey games ended & public skate started. You could be sure Skippy kept a watchful eye on all us kids & always had a joke when we arrived & a pat on the back to be safe when we left. Very sorry for your loss & what I consider a lovable icon in our hometown. God Bless Skip.
