Connie Joynt (daughter of Ronald Sands at St. Lawrence Lodge) posted a condolence
Thursday, August 31, 2017
My name is Connie Joynt. On behalf of the Sands family and my father, Ronald Sands, I would like to share this with Richard's family.
Firstly I would like to extend my sincere condolences on the sudden passing of Richard on behalf of my father.
I am the oldest daughter of Ronald Sands. Our Dad entered St. Lawrence Lodge as a resident in July, 2014. Almost from the beginning, Ron and Dick hit it off. They became very close friends and spent all day, every day together for the last three years except when one of them was with their family. They also served on the Residents Council to bring fresh ideas to the meetings and they went to church faithfully together regularly. My father still has his sight and he and Dick would help each other when they went on their excursions with their walkers.
I had the privilege of getting to know Dick pretty well. I took them out a few times while they were both more mobile and we had many laughs. Dick always made sure my dad was taken care of whether it was for a second cup of coffee or another helping of a yummy meal. They would have long chats about many things and they went to every event possible together. They were always up to date with the latest current events and shared their information and opinions with others. Dick also arranged to take my father for limousine rides to Prescott or other places as a treat for them.
Dick was a special person. He was a gentleman. He was kind hearted, considerate, generous and cared for others especially my Dad. Over the past year, both of them had failed and weren't able to get out anymore. So most of their time was spent in Dick's room together either sleeping in their wheelchairs, listening to the news or having a quiet chat. I know my dad was a comfort to Dick as well because he always wanted Dad nearby.
In closing I want to tell you that our family appreciated the friendship between Dick and my father. He will be missed by many people there but most of all by my Dad. My mother, Ethel Sands, was also a resident there and Dick and your family were very kind to her as well, I want you to know that the beautiful shawl that you made for her is now in safekeeping with me. Every time I see it I think of my Mom and of Richard and his daughters although I never had the privilege to meet you.
God bless you as you continue this journey.
