Miss Carroll - a great teacher! Yes I can remember back to elementary school and how much I enjoyed having her as my teacher at Commonwealth School! I can also remember stopping her on the street in Brockville many years later. She remembered me just as I am sure she remembered all her students. Hearing her name always brought a smile to my face! Memories of great teachers always do!

Several others who attended Victoria School in the mid-50s, as I did, have mentioned that she was always Miss Carroll. I never crossed paths with her after growing up and leaving Brockville but it would never have occurred to me, even now in my 70s, to call her anything but Miss Carroll. She commanded that sort of respect. She was also a great teacher. RIP Miss Carroll.

"To teach is to touch a life forever."
Thank you, Miss Carroll, for all you taught us beyond the curriculum. You made us aware of the beauty of art and literature. You stressed the importance of commitment and discipline. Thank you for reading "The Gift of the Magi" to our 7G Class, your home room, Victoria School, 1954.
With deepest respect and love

I’m so glad I got to spend the day with Betty just a couple of weeks ago. She was an wonderful person. It always amazed me how connected she was with the world and I loved sharing opinions with her, I will miss dropping by on my way through to Kingston. I’m sure she and Alison are finally having chats unimpaired by their frailties. My sincere condolences to all who loved her.Diane

Betty Carroll was always Miss Carroll to me!
She was a wonderful teacher who inspired her students to “think outside the box”.
I will always remember being asked to stand up and “explain what you have just heard.”
My unfortunate response was to say that I knew what it was all about but that I just couldn’t explain it!
She in turn advised that “if you can’t explain it you don’t understand it!
Thank you Miss Carroll you opened a great many doors for your students!

Tree Planting 1956. She was the only teacher to recognize that I was short and had the janitor bring a foot rest for under my desk. Loved her.

Brockville has lost a very special and gifted lady. When we moved to Brockville, I was fortunate to have attended Victoria School where one of the first teachers I had was Miss Carroll. She made a lasting impression on me and through all these years I have had the greatest respect and appreciation for her. Betty, you will be missed by your many friends and I will always remember you as one of the finest teachers I ever had. Thank you for your input into my life and the lives of countless others.

Betty Carroll was a very dear friend loved by all members of our family. We first met Betty almost 70 years ago as our public school teacher. We subsequently treasured her special warmth when we moved beside her following our marriage. She shared the raising of our daughters for 12 years before we moved to B.C. Each year we have chatted monthly and visited yearly. Betty was an exceptional lady interested in people and current events right to the end of her life.
We have lost a treasured part of our life and are grieving our loss.
We extend our sympathies to all who shared life with this very special person.
