Constance Chittenden

Obituary of Constance 'Connie' Chittenden

It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my beloved mother Connie Chittenden, nee Hitsman, at the age of 85 years on June 4, 2018 at Providence Care Hospital (Kingston). Mom fought a long hard battle with cancer, demonstrating strength and dignity every step of the journey.

Connie leaves behind her loving daughter Michele, her cherished granddaughter Alexandra, and her husband Geoff Chittenden.

Connie was predeceased by her parents Bernard and Martha Hitsman; sister Melba Lewis; and brother Reginald Hitsman.

Connie was a generous, thoughtful woman who took great care of those she loved, especially her granddaughter Alexandra, who was the centre of her universe. Those whose lives she touched in her later years often remarked on her perseverance, strength and bravery during very difficult times. Connie was an avid reader, was young at heart and had a wonderful sense of humour that she continued to display even while in Palliative Care.

Fondly remembered by many dear Brockville friends especially Nancy, and by her nephews Bryan and Barry Lewis and Steven and Colin Hitsman and nieces Anne Chittenden and Judy Rippe.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to Dr. Patrick Davison (Brockville General Hospital); Dr. Sunil Patel (Kingston General Hospital); Nurse June (Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario); Nurse Trish (Palliative Care Clinic KGH); Nurse Deb (Community Care); Nurse Trudy (Palliative Care Hospital); and the nurses, physiotherapists and doctors on Heritage Two, Providence Care Hospital for the compassionate care she received.

As expressions of sympathy, please give a donation in Connie’s memory to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF) in particular Providence Care Hospital, Palliative Care or the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario. A graveside service has already taken place.
