I left Brockville only 3 months before his passing, so unfortunately I've only just heard of it now. I'm incredibly sad to hear of Brockville's loss--never before had I met an individual who cared for and loved his community so much. If he wasn't cleaning up the parks and streets, he was helping to retrieve carts for us at Sears. His smile was so infectious, and never seemed to falter. He will be greatly missed, and remembered fondly.

Roger will be missed by all, I work in the BACLA Office and most days Roger would come to the office at lunch to see how things were going and say hi. We had the same ritual every day; I would ask him what he was up to and he would ask me what day it was and I would tell him. Then I would say, "First you are going to the hospital to say hi" and he would say he had to go around the hospital and then around again checking on the construction. Then he would go inside the hospital to say hi. Next he would go to City Hall to check up on things and say and then he was off to Tait's.
Depending on the day I would ask, "What are you up to tonight?" and he would say, "What day is it"? One evening was Loaves & Fishes, one evening was Church, two evenings was "nothing" and in the fall, winter and spring Friday night was always hockey. Even when he was not feeling the best he never stopped smiling and he brightened my day and everyone else's that was in the lunchroom when he stopped by.
I still find it hard to believe that he is gone. Rest in peace Roger, I will miss our daily visits. Christine Davis

Year's ago when I worked in the mall, every night I would push a huge bin of garbage out to the dumpsters. Roger would always see me coming with them and get up from his meal to hold the door for me. That simple gesture showed me daily that there were such kind people in this world. He made a big impact on this community, everyone knew his name and smile. He will be greatly missed.

We met Roger shortly after we moved to Brockville in 1994...and for the 20 years we lived there, we often seen Roger at downtown events. He was always jovial. Always a happy greeting and a cheerful chat. Roger was a gentle person who was always ready to help someone in need or give directions; he respectfully extended kindness to everyone he met. He was loved by everyone who was fortunate to meet and know him. -- We moved away in 2014 but will cherish fond memories of this happy kindred soul. May he rest in gentle peace.

I've never met anyone quite like him. He was probably the happiest and most care free person I've ever met in my life. He would laugh, sing and dance for everyone. He was always shaking hands, greeting everyone he met and always with the biggest and most genuine smile ever. I've known Roger since childhood. I last spoke with him a week or so ago. Still grinning from ear to ear, right to the very end. My life has been made better knowing him and the lives of everyone he's met. He was a kind person. A gentle person, and, perhaps just as importantly, a Brockville icon. He'll forever be synonymously part of Brockville. Rest in peace... David.

My sincerest condolences to the family of Roger. I, like many, knew Roger from the rinks and walking around town. From a young age Roger was a huge influence on my life and inspired me to always try to be a better person. Roger's death is a massive hit to our community and Brockville is a little darker without him.
I think it's safe to say Roger influenced more lives in Brockville than anyone else has and his passing is the largest loss our community has had in my life time.
I thank all of you for sharing Roger with the rest of us. We're all better people for having known him.

I will miss you singing Jingle Bells so loud and saying hi to every single person you pass by. You loved your ice cream, and each and every pay day you came to get some. You were one of the hardest workers I knew. There were times I couldn't keep track of how many jobs you had. You loved to work. I know my daughter will miss you. She always loved saying "hi" and showing off her Halloween costume to you. You were truly a gem in Brockville and may you shine as bright as you did down here on Earth. You are at peace now.
