Obituary of Eileen DeVaux
Eileen Lois Devaux (nee Nixon), January 13, 1924-November 22, 2019. Eileen was born in Montreal to Olga Jean Champion and Samuel William Nixon. She is predeceased by her husband, Lionel Patrick “Pat” Devaux (January 5, 2013) of 64 years: her son, William Charles “Bill” Devaux (May 5, 2011); her brothers Ross Nixon, Jim Nixon & John Nixon. She is survived by her loving daughters Wendy Jane Devaux of Brockville and Susan Dale Christian (Karl) of Callander. She is remembered with affection by her 6 grandchildren and their partners Jennifer (Charlie) Pratt of Hong Kong; Jody (Alex) Karkic of Toronto, Tyler (Susana) Zajacz of Simsbury, Conneticut; Travis Zajacz of Panama; Sam (Heather) Christian of Bonfield; and Will (Celina) Christian of Bracebridge. She was a proud Great-Grandmother to Emily and Addie Karkic, Natasha Pratt and Taylor Zajacz. She is also survived by her dear sister Lesslie Jean Noble of New Bruinswick. True to her Nixon family Irish roots Mom was stubborn to a fault but there was no denying her fierce loyalty and unconditional love for her family. She never tired of wanting to make life easier for her children. She was a meticulous homemaker who will always be remembered for her Sunday night dinners, apple pies and ample sweet treats. Mom was a private person who shared her world with only a few select friends. Although Alzheimer’s gradually stole her memory, she persevered without concern for herself, she always sensed our loving presence and surprized us with her quick humour or a smile from time to time, letting us know she was still with us until her last days. We would like to express our since thanks and appreciation to Donna St. John who learned the fancy footwork necessary to provide daily care to Mom for 10 years.
A Graveside service will be held at a later date. In memory of Eileen, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
