Alfred Fischl

Obituary of Alfred Fred Fischl

Alfred “Fred” Fischl passed away suddenly at his home on March 6th at the side of the love of his life Irma Fischl in his 89tth year. Fred was born in Prague, Czech Republic in 1931. Fred was a Holocaust survivor, although he did not share that difficult start to his life with everyone. He was interned in the Terezin Concentration Camp outside Prague in 1944 by the Nazi occupying forces. He lost three aunts and an uncle who were exterminated by the Nazis. After the end of World War II, Fred immigrated to Canada where he worked for several years before joining DuPont Canada Maitland Works where he worked for 39 years before retirement. Even though he had a difficult start to life, Fred always demonstrated positivity and worked hard to provide for his family. He loved spending time with his family, working out in the gym with his friends at the Brockville YMCA, he loved his dogs (and everyone else’s dogs) and enjoyed his daily Tim Horton’s coffee break. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Fred was survived by his wife of 61 years, Irma Fischl, his two sons, Garry (Gay) and Peter (Carolyn), his grandchildren, Ashley (James), Brittany (Bailey), Carson, and Cameron and four great grandchildren, Raymond, Jayde, Paytyn, and Jaxxon who will miss him dearly. Fred is also survived by his only sister, Margit Mohelski, who resides in Prague and Fred was fortunate to visit with her last September on a visit to the Czech Republic, as well as survived by his nephew Michael Mohelski of Toronto. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in recognition of Fred’s love of animals. Please donate at donations@ospca.on.ca or call to donate at 1-888-668-7722 ext. 321. Family and friends are invited to Barclay Funeral Home 137 Pearl Street, East, Brockville on Saturday August 8th, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Due to the COVID restrictions, please call the funeral home at 613-342-2792 if you would like to attend the visitation as there is a limit to how many people can be in the building at a time.
