Obituary of Rod McLennan

McLennan, Rod October 30, 1929 – December 14, 2020 Entered into rest at the Brockville General Hospital on Monday December 14, 2020. John Roderick “Rod” of Brockville aged 91 years. Beloved husband of Marjorie McLennan (nee Shotter). Dear father of Rod McLennan (Teresa) of Brockville and David McLennan (Susan) of British Columbia. Grandfather of Andrew (Becca), Brendan (Laura), Robert, Alison Ferguson (Scott), Geoffrey and Sarah. Rod is also survived by Great-grandchildren Hannah, Madeline, Jillian Jo, Sam, Tessa, Elsie, a sister Nancy Roberts, as well as several nieces and nephews. Rod’s passion was flying. As a boy, he was an Air Cadet. As a young man, he joined TransCanada Airlines (the predecessor to Air Canada) as a commercial pilot, where he flew for over 32 years until his retirement as a Senior Captain in 1986. Rod’s flying career spanned an exciting period in air travel – starting with piston engine propellor driven planes to the modern jet engine aircraft we know today. During his career he logged over 19,000 hours of flying time. Very few people have the satisfaction of their passion becoming their life’s work – Rod did. Rod was also a great husband, married to Marjorie for 66 wonderful years. As well as a great Dad and role model for his two sons Rod and David, where he instilled a strong work ethic, judgement and values for them to use in their lives. Please join us in celebrating Rod’s life and relish in all the memories you have of him. Due to the COVID restrictions, a private Graveside Service will be held at Oakland Cemetery. In memory of Rod, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Brockville and Area Food Bank would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. East, Brockville. Messages of condolence may be made online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com.
