Condolences to Ted, Randy, Laura and Barry on the passing of your father on behalf of the Frizell family who lived across the street for many years. I have fond memories as a teenager of being a babysitter for you kids. When my parents passed away and we were finishing up the sale of their house, your dad called Brenda and I over and gave each of us a beautiful bird house he had made. In later years I had the pleasure of having a coffee at Walmart with your dad and Keith and with your dad a few times after Keith passed. Always an interesting conversation. What a blessing to have had your dad in your life for 98 years.
Sincerely Freda (Frizell) Mallory

Dear Ted, Randy, Barry, Laura & family,
So very sorry to hear of the loss of Charlie. He always had a warm hello and welcoming smile for me when I came to your home's back door to play monopoly with you in your back porch or play in your tent that he pitched in your back yard. May the wonderful memories that you hold close to your heart of Charlie and your Dad's love help to comfort you now and in the days ahead.

Please accept our condolences in the passing of Charlie. Our mom had so many relatives, we didn't get to see or met all of them, but we sure knew about the Whitelands, our 2nd cousins. She talked a lot about Charlie and his siblings over the years, and you just knew they meant a lot to her. So friendly, funny stories, relaxed and to the point. It just seems like yesterday, that we connected and got to know more of them better. However, I just wanted to let you all know, that although family pass on, and physical touch can fade, those we love are always only a breath away, in our hearts and in many fond memories. Such as Charlie. He will be sadly missed, and always remembered. Lesley Dunning & Wilson family.

Teddy, Susan, Randy, Barry, Laura and Dave,
It was with much sadness that Wayne and I, Moyra and Doug and Phil received the news that your dad has passed away. He was always our favourite neighbour on the street. I can remember Charlie fixing tour backstairs, hammer and nails in hand while dad stood by with a beer in hand ready to assist if needed. Charlie never saw the need to call him - he was a wise man!. He was the consumate gentleman and it was always wonderful to expect that we would see him at the cenotaph each November 11th and get caught up with him and the family at the Legion after the ceremony. Your dad was the first landlord Wayne and I ever had and he was the best - couldn't do enough. And we will never forget his kindnesses to mom while she was at Bridlewood and Dad at the Lodge with Alzheimers. Every November, even though dad did not know who Charlie was anymore, Charlie would go to the Lodge and put a poppy on dad. And dad would give him a great big smile! He really was and always will be a fan favourite of the Gaffney family. Love to all.
Wayne, Paddy, Moyra, Dougie and Phil.

During High School, I loved hanging out at my good friend, Laura's house because Charlie and Jean were active, engaging, fun and caring people. While in my early twenties, Jean schooled me on the golf course with her skilled play and patiently mentored me in the rules and etiquette of the game. Just a few years ago, my sister and I were at a driving range and Charlie (who had indeed driven himself to the range) took it upon himself to graciously give us some free lessons while offering us some of his sage advice on our swings. Laura, Teddy, Randy and Barry, it was never lost on you that you had truly wonderful parents and I know that each of you will miss your dad very much. May your precious memories sustain you in your grief and the fellowship of your very special family strengthen you in the days ahead.

My first day at the Bell was spent with Charlie, where I learned the job and skills that would follow me through the 30+ years of my Bell career. I enjoyed playing golf with Jean and Charlie and Wally and socializing at many functions over the years. He was respected by all who worked with him. I am so sad and sorry to hear about the passing of Charlie. I always enjoyed seeing him and talking to him every single time we met. Just talking to him always brought a smile to my face. He was always talking about looking forward to his next round of golf. He was inducted into the Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and, even though he was not always in the best of health, he loyally returned to the induction ceremonies every June at the Memorial Centre where he always enjoyed talking to other inductees and friends. He was a wonderful person and he will be fondly remembered and missed by his family, friends and community. Rest in peace, Charlie. You deserve it.
