Wallace Chant

Obituary of Wallace George Chant

Peacefully entered into rest at the Brockville General Hospital on Friday, August 27th, 2021. Wally Chant of Mallorytown, age 83 years. Beloved husband of Vonnie Chant (Percy). Loving father of Tammy Cotie (John) of Brockville. Cherished Papa of Harper and Emerson Cotie. Dear son of the late George and Ethel (Haws) Chant, and brother of the late Bruce Chant. Also missed by brother-in-law Vaughan Percy and cousin Judy DeGroot. Wally was an employee of Dupont, Maitland site for over 42 years, having retired in 2000. He was a long-serving volunteer fire-fighter and Deputy Chief with the Front of Yonge Fire Department. Wally was an avid reader and an outspoken critic on many issues. His passion was wood-working, and many of his family and friends were the beneficiaries of his handy-work, from classic wooden toys and furniture to his beloved cedar strip canoes and kayaks. Wally will be remembered by many for his sharp wit, never-ending kindness to others, and his occasional profanity. “There are only two ways of doing things – my way and the wrong way.” His wisdom, work-ethic, sense of humour, and love are what his family will most remember. The family would like to thank Dr. Selaman and the ICU nursing staff for their wonderful care. A special thank you goes out to nurse Ben for his exceptional compassion and support. According to Wally’s wishes, a private family graveside service at Mallorytown Cemetery will take place. In memory of Wally, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully appreciated by his family. Arrangements entrusted to Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville.
