Obituary of June Arlie Pattenden

(nee Coville) It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our strong, resilient, steadfast June, at the Sherwood Park Manor on Wednesday March 9, 2022. June was born at Brockville General Hospital on November 5, 1932 and lived with her parents, Stanley and Lela, at their farm on Bisseltown Road. From an early age, June worked on the farm alongside her father and upon receiving her driver’s license, became the delivery person for the family market. After graduating from BCI in 1949, June took a position as secretary and bookkeeper at Bayswater Shipping, where she worked for 19 years. She then worked at CFJR Radio Station in different capacities for 18 years. June was an adherent of the Bethel United Church and also served as secretary of the UCW for some time. June married Ken Pattenden in 1981 and they spent 37 happy years together before Ken’s death in 2018. June and Ken loved travelling together and went on many bus trips and cruises where they visited many places in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. They also spent many weekends at the Coville family cottage on the Mississippi River. June was a wonderful gardener whose produce and flower gardens were a beautiful site to behold. June was predeceased by her husband Ken, her parents, Stanley and Lela, her daughter in law, Sue Bartley and grandson Justin Schwieg. She will be missed by her children: Carol Baker (Jim), Christine McLaughlin (Terry), and Gary Pattenden. Her grandchildren: Jason Schwieg (Shauna), Lindsay Armstrong (Dave), Kim Bennett (Chad White) and Caitlin McLaughlin. She was known as G.J. (Great June) to her great grandchildren: Lucas, Jacek, Austin, Ella, Zachary and Audrey. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Royal Brock Retirement residence for the care and kindness she was shown during her residence there from August 2018 till March 2021 and also to the wonderful staff at Sherwood Park Manor where she spent her last year. The care and compassion shown to our June will never be forgotten. Family and friends will be received at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. E., Brockville, for a memorial visitation on Wednesday March 23, 2022 from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by the Celebration of June’s life to be held in the Chapel at 2 p.m. Interment Oakland Cemetery. In memory of June, donations to the Brockville District Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care would be appreciated by family. Messages of condolence may be sent online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com. The family has requested that all attendees at the visitation and or service for June to kindly wear a mask.
