Dear Katherine and Katherine, I am sorry to hear about Mr. Graham's passing. I really enjoyed working with him at the Correctional Service of Canada. He was very kind, courteous, a good listener, patient and always made me feel welcome and a contributor to the mission of CSC. He also was very much a gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Kathy, Louise and I send deepest condolences to you, your daughter and extended family. Andy was an exemplary teacher, mentor and friend. I can’t recall when he first invited me to be involved with the MPA program at Queens but it feels like we have always been working to develop and share case studies with his students, and having discussions on issues related to governance and government finances, IPAC and our other shared interests. His insight, his intellect, his sense of humour and his good-natured ability to mentor others will be missed but not forgotten. David.

Dear Katherine,
I am so sorry to hear that Andy has passed away. I admired his work as a professor and environmentalist. I was proud that a graduate of the first class at Glendon College had succeeded so well . I was very happy that you and he were such a fine couple and contributors both to the academic community and your neighbors for so many years. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
With my most sincere condolences to you and your family and friends,
Roseann

I had the privilege to be a childhood friend of Andy Graham. We spent our early years growing up on Cornelia St...the gang...Ann and Gail, Gloria and Cindy. We spent those early days building forts in the trees behind his house and eating his mum's cookies. Summers were spent biking to the swimming pool and packing lunches to explore new adventures in the "cedars". Cowboys and Davy Crockett, guns and holsters and bows and arrows...oh the adventures. Neighborhood hide and seek after dark. Fall tomato fights with over ripened tomatoes. So many great memories. As we became teenagers, we went in different directions and gradually lost contact.
As I read Andrew's obituary I was happy to see that Andrew had a life well lived. He was a good friend.
My deepest sympathy to Andrew's family
Blessings Cindy-Lou (Walker)Hyde

I would like to comment on Andrew (Andy) Graham’s passing. I only came to know Andrew recently via my recent seat (two years) on the board of the Canadian Association of Police Governance. I have only met him virtually in the course of board meetings and in the context of his chairing of the Research and Policy Committee of the CAPG. Almost immediately on my taking my seat on the CAPG board, as well, I participated in a webinar that in part addressed the issue of “police governance.” Andrew was one of the presenters on that webinar. I was immediately impressed with his frank talk. He did not seem to back away from any topic – not only in that webinar, but in the course of other meetings where I had the significant privilege to benefit from remarks he would make and positions he would take.
I talk about “knowing” Andy; I am not sure that he would ever recognise me. I listened to him speak, however, whenever I had the opportunity. He was always forthright in any positions he took – most notable for me on the issue of police governance. He was, too, though, gracious and accepting in listening to comments from others – whether those comments were agreeing with positions he took or whether comments were challenging his thinking.
I worked in the difficult milieu of “corrections” across Canada, in varying settings. I did not know Andy in that capacity, but from what I am reading I wish I had. I keep mentioning “knowing” Andy. I am not sure he would ever recognise me; our "face to face” encounters were fleeting – partly due to the COVID circumstances we have all been enduring. In reading some of what has been written in this forum I was surprised to hear of Andy’s association with Glendon College. He was an early graduate of Glendon; I was a student in residence at Founders College at York U, the year that Founders opened, and there was an anecdote I would have wanted to share with him. One evening a bunch of us from Founders managed to surreptitiously attend the Glendon campus and steal the large concrete turtle with a frog on its back from a garden and fountain area, just outside the (at the time) Glendon dining hall. There is more than what I write here to the story I tell, and I expect from my early “knowing” Andy, he would have enjoyed it. From my somewhat limited experience to date with the CAPG, which is where I was introduced to Andy, he will certainly be missed.

Kathy - 52 years is something. I was at Andy's side on that flat rock, in the perfect Muskoka sun which is unlike any other, feeling the breeze as we squinted from the glare on the water as you were surrounded by family and friends when you married. And before that, grade 13 with David and friends drinking wine and listening to Joan Baez and Gordon Lightfoot as we resolved world issues in someone's sunroom. We were very good friends and we had great times. Later, the 3 of us antiquing every weekend, finishing furniture, making amazing food and sitting late discussing politics and world affairs. You were both considerably adversaries and I went home when I knew I couldn't carry the day. These were good times. Special days called for elaborate meals that stretched my culinary skills while Andy was always so assured. Times at the farm, smelling the land, embraced by the quiet, making ice cream in that old crank machine Andy insisted on using, were special.
Andy must have been a special father Katherine. So smart, intellectual, kind, stoic sometimes, incisive, demanding but not in any way I think he wouldn't apply to his own rigorous discipline. Always amiable, humour was reserved for only the best really smart jokes or conditions. He was was proud, and didn't miss a chance to boast about your accomplishments.
I remember him fondly.

I too was at Glendon with Andy and Kathy and my least fond memories were at the end of term. As a rather undisciplined “student” I was always scrambling to complete essays and prepare for exams. Andy and Kathy were usually pretty relaxed as they had a schedule for completing essays on time and leaving plenty of time to prepare for exams.
After Glendon we went our separate ways and lost touch. Then one day I opened the magazine Saturday Night to discover Andy on the cover as the Deputy Warden of Kingston Pen. My wife and I visited Kathy and Andy at the farm and for dessert Andy made a delicious amaretto cheesecake. I asked for the recipe which I still have written on Kingston Pen notepaper.
Conversations with Andy were always enlightening. He was thoughtful, knowledgeable and challenging. He was a public servant in all the best senses of that term.

The notice of Andy's passing has triggered so many fond memories of him and Katherine when we were all at Glendon College as budding students and politicians. I rarely saw Andy without Kathy, even though Andy and I were in the men's residence, and Kathy in the women's. There were then, and throughout their lives together, inseparable. Andy loved to smile gently, which masked an incisive mind and intellect. We had so much fun back then ! One would have never imagined then that he would become a senior public servant at Corrections Canada, amongst so many of his other leadership roles. I recall too visiting Kathy and Andy at their beloved farm. I believe it was the one and only time Andy tried, without success, to teach me how to shoot a gopher.
My thoughts are with Kathy, his daughter Katherine and his extended family. He was a good man.

I have had the privilege of getting to know Andy in the past 4 years. Andy had taught me much about taking pride in well ordered surroundings and a good schedule. I always enjoyed hearing about his cooking adventures-they were never simple meals. Andy thoroughly enjoyed treating others with his creations. You will be fondly remembered, my friend.

I am very sorry for your loss Katherine Sr and "the other Katherine". I have many childhood memories that involve Andy at your home and on road trips. I remember visiting him in Kingston at his warden office and sitting in huge leather chairs in his big office , thinking he had a very important job to have that office, which he did (what was huge and big at the time to a child). He then took us to the book store to buy us the latest Babysitter's Club novels. I had my first bee sting at the farm and Andy explained to me why the bee wasn't the bad guy. This many years later I can clearly see his face lifting me up onto a pony at the farm, can see him cooking in your beautifully renovated kichen. Many more memories come to mind. It is funny what we remember, seemingly small details that obviously stay with us for a reason. I am holding you both close in my thoughts as you navitate this new life without him. Sending you each a big, warm hug.

I had the pleasure working closely with Andy through the summer of 2021 developing course materials and resources for the MPA program and I am so grateful for that time and experience. Andy took so much care and attention in the development of others and was always there to help. He had such a good heart and wanted to see the best in everyone. He was an incredible mentor and always found the light, joy, and humour in life. My warmest condolences to his family in this time. Andy was nothing short of amazing and will be deeply missed. -Armina Harris

I worked much with Andy over the years with corrections . He was an innovator always seeking improvements at a time when perhaps status quo was the normative. He stood out from the crowd with this wisdom and in later years used his educative talent to mentor others at the school of public policy. My condolences to Katherine and family at this time. My sincere condolences to Andrew's family and friends in this time of loss.
Seven years into my career with CSC, I requested to meet with Andrew to inform him of my decision to resign from CSC to pursue a post graduate degree in Social Work. To my great surprise, as then Deputy Commissioner Ontario Region, he offered to support my educational pursuits and hold a position for me back at CSC. This allowed me to complete a 36 year career in Corrections, primarily within my vocation as a social worker. Although a relatively smaller action on his part, it had a significant impact in my life for which I will always be grateful to him.

It is like the passing of an age, when I learned this morning of the passing of my earliest of Wardens of Kingston Penitentiary, while I was a young, fervent and educated young Correctional Officer. Andrew Graham was one of my role models along with his illustrious and experienced staff that made up Kingston Penitentiary's very well-rounded staff; from his assistant wardens down to his senior Keeper and all the men under their wings. I have had the pleasure of working as a supervisor ( Keeper) of Correctional Operations and worked fairly closely with Andrew, and I remember him with fondness and respect. Rest In Peace, Mr. Andrew Graham, you are and shall be missed by all of those who mattered in your life. May God bless you and accept you into his Kingdom of Heaven, and may he also bless your devoted wife and family members who remain behind as testimony to your having passed this way through life on this Earth. AMEN

Andy was a good friend and mentor to me. When I first arrived at Queen's he was one of the first to reach out to welcome me; when I took on the Directorship of the School of Policy Studies, he was one of the first to meet with me to offer his support. He was generous with his time and thoughts and made a huge impact on his colleagues and his students. We miss him! On behalf of the School of Policy Studies and of Queen's University, our condolences to Katherine and the extended family. - Warren Mabee
