Stephen was my childhood buddy and we shared a deep bond. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up together. From jumping icebergs to try and get to Montreal (we didn’t get too far as we were told to get on shore). I can truthfully say that Stephen was an awesome pitcher…because I was his catcher. His home was my second home. Christmas mornings I would go over to see what he got and to play together. Thank you Stephen for being my buddy…love you and will always miss you. You were the best, you always made me laugh and feel good!

It is with great sadness that Bill and I (Nancy) remember so many fond memories of time spent with our dear friend and neighbour, Steve, and his family. So many impromptu deck and lawn gatherings. So many bon fires beside the river. Swimming across the St. Lawrence River in the Marilyn Bell-St Lawrence River swim event! The Maitlandfest and cook out .So much music and laughter. What an amazing friend and neighbour you were, Steve. You will be remembered with such love.♥️

My sincere condolences to the entire McDougall family upon Steve's passing. What a great guy who always had time for a chat whenever you would run into him. He was such a big sports fan who didn't mind bantering back and forth when talking about teams he loved vs teams you may have loved that were different. Steve was always very competitive when it came to playing fastball but after the game it was all about friendship and maybe a couple beers. RIP Steve

My love to Jaime and Allie. I can hear Uncle Steve's chuckle still as the family gathered together. I always loved watching him and my dad good naturedly tease each other and Uncle Steve still challenging him as only little brothers can on who could do what better than the other. But they shared the same twinkle in their eyes that never let the challenges get too serious. So many stories of their childhood usually ended up with the big brothers putting Uncle Steve in unplanned danger, whether it was a twist on the story of walking uphill to and from school in 4 feet of snow...until Steve got hit by a car, then they got bussed or putting him on an ice float on the river not realizing he was too little and scared to jump off as he floated away and they had to give chase and get him before their parents found out what they did.
Then as he got older Jaime and Allie were the apples of his eyes. He was so proud of his girls and that twinkle in his eyes was brighter and smile on his face was broader, when talking about them. It's that twinkle and smile I'll remember when thinking of Uncle Steve.

First off, my deepest sympathies to Jaime and Allie on the passing of your Dad who I know (and you do too) loved you both to the end of the earth. Also to Janet and the contentment and love you brought to Steve during his final years.
While the words come with profound sadness, they exist as a testament to the well lived life of a man I admired and held the deepest respect for, my Uncle Steve. After moving out West so many years ago and forging my own “twisted road” I never forgot the many lessons, sense of humor and the valuable “oh well, stuff happens, move on” strength that Uncle Steve had coupled with abundant empathy and compassion for all. His dedication and support for his sports teams was completely incorrigible, inspiring and endearing to the many that were blessed to have known him.
Love you, will miss you, but will never ever forget you.
Rest in peace Uncle Steve
