Obituary of Kathryn Besco

Peacefully entered into rest on Wednesday June 21st, 2023, in Palliative Care at the Brockville General Hospital. Kathryn Besco of Brockville and formerly of Brighton, aged 73 years. Beloved wife of Randy Besco. Loving mother of Michelle Robinson (Jeff) of Elizabethtown; and stepmother of Daniel (Christina) and David Besco (Andrea). Cherished Gram of Mila and Tobin; and step grandmother of Joseph, Abby, Bryce, Peyton and Halley. Also missed by niece Tammy Byng (and her son Talyn).

The world has lost someone truly special.  Kathy’s kindness, passion for volunteering throughout her life and her ability to find meaningful conversation with literally anyone were attributes to admire.  A true Chatty Kathy.

Kathy took pride in her work as a public school secretary but her true love was found in her interactions with the school kids.  Kathy loved children, loved being a mom to Michelle, and was even more overjoyed to become a grandmother.  She spoiled the children with endless gifts, hugs and loved to spend every moment she could with them.  She loved to just sit and listen to them chatter, ask them endless questions, make crafts together and read to them.  During the pandemic, Mila and Gram regularly had “video dates” where they could be heard giggling and playing through the screen.

When Kathy wasn’t with her grandchildren she could usually be found near the water, reading a true crime book or on her tablet browsing Marketplace for new treasures.

Over the years, Kathy’s love for travelling blossomed.  She visited Hawaii and Mexico in her younger years, cried upon seeing the Sydney Opera House when she stayed with Michelle in Australia and enjoyed annual trips to Florida, Texas and cruising various tropical destinations with Randy after retirement.  One of her favourite moments was swimming with the Stringrays.

Some of Kathy’s favourite years were spent on Little Lake with Randy and later on Fox Den Drive building lifelong relationships within the neighbourhood.

Kathy will be missed dearly by all those who loved her.  To honour Kathy, pick up a book and read to a child you love and think of her.  Make sure you take your time and point out every detail of the illustrations in true Chatty Kathy style.

A Celebration of Kathryn’s Life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 100, 25 Park Street in Brighton, Ontario on Saturday July 8th, 2023 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In memory of Kathryn, donations to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care or to the Slay Society Ottawa would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.  Arrangements are entrusted to Barclay Funeral Home 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville.
