Ava Dudgeon

Obituary of Ava Danita-Faye Dudgeon

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ava Danita-Faye Dudgeon, aged 7. Ava passed away peacefully while being comforted by her parents Michael Dudgeon and Jessica Smith on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Roger Neilson House in Ottawa.

Ava was born in Brockville (Ontario) on September 08, 2015, and is missed and loved so much by her big sister Lyric. She is also missed deeply by her grandparents Jo Anne and Dwayne Dudgeon, Dan Smith (Lisa) and Cheryle Warren (Darren), her great-grandmothers Joan Warren and Josie Mercier, her aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and all others who were fortunate to be a part of her life.

From the moment Ava was born, she brought joy to every person she encountered. She loved the colour pink, unicorns, and was obsessed with all things baking related. She found joy in everything, whether it be as simple as cracking an egg, or even her routine medical appointments. She would explore her grandparents’ home while playing with Auntie Colleen and her daddy's childhood toys. She would sing songs with her big sister. She’d try to jump scare her parents and nanny often.

Despite all she went through in her short life, Ava carried with her this immense amount of joy that she shared with all those she met. She was very outgoing and tried to speak with everyone, whether we were at the park playing or the hospital. She told the funniest jokes and would share this full belly laugh with a smile beaming from ear to ear that was instantly contagious.

The family thanks every doctor, nurse, social worker, therapist, and teacher that helped Ava through her journey. We want to wish a special thank you to the incredible teams on 4 North at CHEO and Roger Neilson House for the compassionate care she received from the beginning to the end of her journey.

We ask in Ava's honour that each and every one of you do your best to live your life with the strength and courage Ava did while she was with us.

A celebration of life is being held at Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville on Wednesday July 12, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In memory of Ava, donations to the Roger Neilson House, Ronald McDonald House Ottawa, CHEO, Make-a-Wish Canada, or the Starlight Children’s Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
