Obituary of James Robert Sawyer

Passed away with family by his side at Brockville General Hospital on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023.

Jim was a much loved husband, father, father-in-law, brother-in-law, friend, neighbour, and former educator.

A man who had the happy knack for really appreciating the simple things: coffee with his friends, a good book, lounging on the beach in Mexico, family dinners, and being trounced at cards by superior opponents. On the other hand, dry cookies, kale, and raking one more leaf, were politely, but emphatically, declined.

He was a quiet man—except when he wasn’t!—who valued courtesy, civility, generosity, and kindness. And yet he was a big man, and he’s left a big hole. Far bigger even than we could have imagined. It cannot be filled. We can only hope that slowly we will hurt less, and marvel more; grateful to have had him as long as we did, quietly, steadily, but surely, helping to hold us all up.

We love you still and always.

We’ll miss you forever.

Following Jim’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
