Douglas Hutchison

Obituary of Douglas Joseph Hutchison

HUTCHISON, Douglas Joseph

June 17, 1934 – January 30, 2024

Passed away peacefully in his 89th year at the Brockville General Hospital.  Beloved husband of the late Nora Maureen (nee Avery).  Loving father of Marilee Chisamore (Larry Deir), Julie Hutchison and David Hutchison (Terry).  He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Sarah France (Jeremy), Jay Chisamore (Carlee), Bryan Hutchison (Sarah) and Jeremy Hutchison as well as his great grandchildren Lee & Nora France and Hope, Carter & Easton Hutchison.  Dear brother of Bruce Hutchison (Bonnie) & Nadine Blair (Ron). Predeceased by his parents William & Nellie Hutchison, his brother David Hutchison, his sister Shirley Huntley (Ray) & his granddaughter Melissa Hutchison. He will also be missed by many nieces & nephews and extended families as well as his devoted friend Bob Fowler & his family.

Doug was a lifelong resident of Escott, a descendant of United Empire Loyalists first settling there in the 1700’s.  He grew up on the Hutchison family dairy farm at the corner of Hutchison Rd. & Highway 2 & he lived in that area his whole life.  Although farming was always close to his heart, he became a plumber and pipefitter by trade & travelled to various job sites out west and to different parts of Ontario through his Union. He later worked for I.B. Alguire & for Chris Nash Building in Lansdowne as well as running his own plumbing business.

He will be remembered for his amazing work ethic, his rock-solid strength and determination and his fierce love and loyalty to his family.

A special thank you to Doug’s devoted PSW’s Angie & Sherry, all the staff at the St. Lawrence District Medical Centre and the amazing nursing staff on the 3rd floor at Brockville General Hospital for their kindness, care and compassion.

According to Doug’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral.  There will be a private family graveside service at the Union Cemetery in Lansdowne later in the spring followed by lunch at Cornwall’s Pub in Rockport, one of Doug’s favorite spots by the river. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Gananoque & District Humane Society. Messages of condolence may be sent online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com
