Obituary of Denise McLean

It is with heavy hearts we announce the loss of Denise McLean (Whitmore) in her 70 th year on May 8 th after a short but courageous battle with AML. Born on April 7, 1955 she was a loving wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend.

The empty hearts of husband Thomas, sons Nathaniel (Sabrina) and Kelsey (Sally) will be forever impacted. She was a loving sister to Sharon (William Sammon), Peter and sister-in-law to Timothy and Dara Lee.  Predeceased by her precious sister Penelope, her father George and mother Marg

Denise held her cousins in the Sylvestre and Taylor clan close in her heart. She was afforded the luxury to be a Great-Great, Great and Aunt to many in her own and extended marital families.

Denise chose to give up her travel industry career and stay home as a dedicated mother to the boys and to follow Tom with his many career moves within Ontario and to Arizona.

Denise was never short of words or willingness to enjoy life and all those in her presence. She cherished all of her friendships developed in her hometown of Pembroke, as well as Trenton, Kingston, Brockville, Arizona and the Peterborough SSFC classmates.

Denise continually expressed her gratitude to the Ottawa General Hospital Hematology team for their amazing dedication, care and compassion shown to us through diagnosis, transplant and end of life comfort. The Physicians, Nurses and PSW’s are the best of the best that the Ottawa General Cancer Team has to offer!

Her smile, wit and humour lasted to the end as when asked by the hospital Priest if she wanted to do confession. With a grin she immediately responded “maybe, but it will take a while!”

Visitation at Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St, Brockville on Wednesday, May 15 from 3 to 6 pm and in Pembroke at Murphy Funeral Home and Chapel, 296 Isabella St on Friday, May 17 from 12:30 until 2:30 pm.

Per Denise’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local food bank or Leukemia Cancer Research.
