Jean Purvis

Obituary of Jean Purvis

Hark now hear the sailors’ cry, Smell the sea and feel the sky, Let your soul and spirit fly into the Mystic, Van Morrison

On May 10, 2024, (Susan) Jean Purvis, 84 years of age, passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital surrounded by family. Jean received outstanding care from the staff on Connell 9 and our heartfelt thanks to the head nurse Kerri-Lynn, and Drs. Anderson and Matthews (both of them). Thanks too to the other health care providers along the way, especially Drs. Lowe and Kelly. Jean was a proud Nova Scotian, born on August 22, 1939 in Upper Stewiacke, Colchester County; her family among some of the first settlers to the area. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Purvis, the love of her life, whose loss she never quite recovered from. Jean followed Frank’s military career throughout Canada and in Germany during the 1960s with their three Purvis brats. A life-long learner, bookworm and polymath, Jean started her academic journey at Normal School in Truro where she earned her teacher’s certification, after which she never stopped studying and traveling the world. Jean is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Ray), son, Trevor (Lorraine) and daughter, Julie, and grandchildren, Kelly Matton (Rob), Jesse Matton Purvis (Sarah), Sam & Ethan Fox. At Mom’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Internment along with Dad’s ashes will take place at Rockport Protestant Cemetery, Salton Rd., Rockport ON at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024. In lieu of flowers, we would welcome donations to any of the following of Jean’s favorite charities: the Kingston Symphony, Joe's Musical Instrument Lending Library, Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre. Jean was a passionate advocate of each. “Remember me with fondness and happiness as I lived a happy life filled with love, family, friends, and many precious memories.” Barclay Funeral Home, 1033 Prince St. Lansdowne entrusted with the arrangements.
