Obituary of Doris Singleton

DORIS ELEANOR SINGLETON - Dedicated Wife, Loving Mother and doting Grandmother, age 83, of Dean Avenue, Guelph, passed away unexpectedly on June 16, 2014. She was a wonderful example of faith, hope and charity! Doris Eleanor Driver was born November 26, 1930 in Brockville, ON to William (Bill) Driver and Ella Margaret Sheridan. She graduated and worked as a Nurse and Airline Stewardess until her marriage to Alan Hugh Singleton in 1959. Alan built the house that became their home in Guelph, ON. with their children (Peter and Jim). The family enjoyed many summers at the cottage on the St. Lawrence River at Anchorage Bay, ON where the highlight was the company of her Brockville extended family. She was an active and proud member of The Rotary Center, Board member for the Canadian Diabetes Association, volunteer with MADD and involved with many other organizations. In spite of her fair share of trials and tribulations during her life, she remained relentless in her ongoing devotion to serving others. She truly was an example of faith and hope. Harcourt Memorial United Church was one of the pillars in her life. She will be greatly missed by her extensive group of friends of which centered around hockey, bridge, knitting, Bible Study and travel. Doris leaves behind to carry on her heart, three grandchildren, Curtis, Brooke and Alan, all of whom she was very proud of. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Sue (Sergio Arione) of Montreal, QC, dear sister-in-law Winnifred McDougall of Red Lake, ON., nephew Morris (Michelle) of Red Lake and many many cousins. She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 37 years; as well as sons Peter Singleton and James Singleton. Visitation will be held Tuesday June 24, 2014 at Wall-Custance Funeral Home, 206 Norfolk, Guelph, ON 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm, Church Service will be held on Wednesday June 25, 2014 at 12 noon in the HARCOURT MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH on Dean Avenue, Guelph ON, with reception to follow. Interment at the Oakland Cemetery, Brockville, ON. 10:00 am Thursday June 26, 2014. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial at 11:00 am immediately following at the Barclay Funeral Home on 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville.
