George Nott

Obituary of George Nott

With all our love and wonderful memories, we say goodbye to George William Nott who passed away October 26, 2009. George's greatest joy was his family; cherished husband of Loretta, adored father of Gregory (Sima), Geoffrey and Caroline (James), and beloved grandfather of Sahra. He will be missed greatly by his brother Bill and extended family and friends. Born in Hamilton on November 25, 1939, George touched the lives of all who knew him with his endearing sense of humour, integrity and generosity. He was well known for entertaining family and friends with his legendary stories as well as being a voracious reader, movie buff and avid sports fan. A graduate of Cathedral High School (Hamilton), McMaster University and Ontario College of Education (Toronto), George shaped and inspired generations of young people during his distinguished career as a history teacher at Cathedral and Thousand Islands Secondary School (Brockville). Admired by his colleagues for his love of teaching, he treasured the friendship of the retired TISS teachers' group. His strong faith and unwavering optimism helped his family weather his recent illness. It was with great courage, hope and strength that he underwent a lung transplant on October 9, 2009. His family is grateful for the kindness and care provided by the Toronto General Hospital Lung Transplant and ICU teams. Family and friends may call at the Barclay Funeral Home 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville, on Sunday 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be Celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Brockville, on Monday November 2, 2009 at 10am. Interment St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
