Obituary of W.A. Bruce Davidson

Peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends who loved him dearly on April 28th, 2005. Born on May 8th. 1914 near Sauble Falls, ON to the late William and Janet Davidson. Beloved husband of Lillian (Osbourne) and treasured by his daughters Karen Smith (Cam Kelly) and Lynn Gleason (Dennis) . Loved by his grandchildren Alan Bruce Smith (Kelly Spencer) of Centerville, Liana Smith (Steve Potvin) of Kingston, Troy Gleason (Ellen) of Elizabethtown, Trent Gleason (Sonia) of Brockville. Beloved Pop and Big Pop to his great grandchildren Bryan Alan Bruce Smith, Paige Alexandra Gleason, Olivia Rose Gleason and Breck Davidson Gleason. Also survived by his sisters Helen and Anna Davidson of Mitchell, ON. Bruce was predeceased by his first wife Mary Haigh in 1983, his brother Jack in 1981 and a niece Jacquie in 2005. Bruce brought the Coca-Cola beverage base operation to Brockville in 1967, only the second one in North America. His proud association with Coca-Cola lasted 64 years. He was active in muncipal goverment for many years, was a loyal and worhty Rotarian and a recipient of Rotarys' highest honour, the Paul Harris Fellowship.Bruce was an avid lawn bowler for over 70 years, and well known for his gardening skills and especially for friendly competetion with the late Alec Stewart, a neighbour and Rotarian buddy over their tomato plants. Bruce and Mary and later Bruce and Lillian enjoyed extensive travelling, later spending time in their winter home in Clearwater, Florida where they had many friends. Bruce was happiest surrounded by his family and took great pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the proud recipient of a silver medal in figure skating presented to him by great granddaughter Paige Gleason who "Skated for Pop" to win it. Family and friends may pay respects at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. East Brockville on Sunday May 1st. from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church, Brockville on Monday May 2nd at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will follow. In memoriams to the First Presbyterian Church, Almost Home(Kingston), CHEO (Ottawa) or the Brockville Lawn Bowling Club would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
