Robert Morrison

Obituary of Robert John Morrison

On May 12, 2022 the best husband, father and grandpa we could ever have asked for, passed away suddenly. Robert John Morrison was born on August 6, 1943 in Wales and made the journey to Canada with his mother, Violet, at two years of age while his father, John, waited for them in their new country. Bob’s brother, Richard (Elizabeth), completed the Morrison family. Bob married the love of his life, Barbara, on December 24, 1970 in Toronto before moving to Mallorytown to continue his teaching career. As a teacher and then principal in the Leeds and Grenville School Board his passion for education was evident in his love for his students as well as the athletes he coached in a variety of sports. When he retired in 1997, his focus on family and community involvement expanded even further. There was nothing more important than his children and grandchildren. Shannon (James), Courtney (Dennis) and Gavin (Jen) plus their children Kellan, Callie, Gwen, Will, Stella, Hazel and Willow loved to spend time with him at our family home as well on adventures to the cottage on Charleston Lake and our yearly trip to Fenelon Falls. Larne, Northern Ireland will always be considered his second home as he visited his friend, Bill Burns, frequently after their teacher exchange in 1988. Bob will be forever remembered for his quick wit, watching kids shows with his grandchildren and his devotion to his RedBlacks, Leafs and chocolate. The dynamic duo of Barb and Bob also ingrained themselves into the Front of Yonge community. Both have been involved with numerous groups and events over the years with Bob most recently being the chair of the Mallory Coach House committee. His love of politics and history resulted in many terms as a municipal councillor and deputy mayor as well as chairing the Cataraqui Regional Conservation Authority, Front of Yonge Library Board and being a founding member of the Mallory Coach House Museum. Bob has left an incredible mark on his community and his family. We would like to invite all of those who would like to share in his Celebration of Life to come to the Mallory Coach House gardens on Saturday, June 11 from 2 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Thousand Islands River Heritage Society or the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Caintown.
