Ronald Birrell

Obituary of Ronald Bruce Birrell

In Memory of

Ronald Bruce "Sonny" Birrell

1931-2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father and Poppa, Ron "Sonny" Birrell, surrounded by his children.

Beloved husband to Elaine (Gray) Birrell (predeceased). He was an outstanding father to Ron (Lynn), Steve (Robin), Richard (Darlene) (both predeceased), Susan (Lindsay), adored Poppa to 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Ron was predeceased by his parents Andrew Wallace Birrell & Christina Scott, his siblings John, Archie, Jean, Chrissy & Dorothy.

Survived by his sister-in-law Lillian (Gray) Reside.

Dad was born and grew up in Brockville and married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Elaine Gray. Together they embarked on an extraordinary life, building a family together, that they cherished above all else. To put into words what kind of man our father was would fill pages.  He was a man of integrity and kindness.

He turned a job into a lifetime of global travel and adventure, beginning at the Dupont Plant in Maitland, Montreal, Toronto, ending up in Switzerland at the end of his career. We will forever miss his adventure stories. Dad and Mom retired to Brockville where they spent their days boating on the river. He was a voracious history reader, a talented artist and model ship builder.

Dad will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Ron's request is that no service be held.  His wish was that you smile and remember all the happy memories shared.

"Aye, but it's been grand to know ye"

Memorial donations to the Brockville General Palliative care would be greatly appreciated by the family. Messages of condolences may be sent online to www.barclayfuneralhome.com
